The mass killing site is built in Rayer Bazar in Itkhola of Dhaka. After the end of Bangladesh's liberation war in 1971, it was built as a symbol of respect for the Pakistan army's killing of the best intellectuals and others in the country with the help of their partners. This monument is built in the place where the assassination took place. Among the killed intellectuals were educators, doctors, journalists, writers, film directors and other professionals.

In 1993, the government of Bangladesh decided to construct a monument at the place where this brutal killing took place. The Government of Bangladesh's Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Institute of Architects jointly called on the national level competition for the design of monument building. Design of design by architect Fariduddin Ahmed and architect Jamie-Al-Shafi are selected in 22 designs. Public Works Department got the responsibility of implementing the project. This work is completed in three years from 1996 to 1999.

The whole space is 3.51 acres. It is divided into a grid of 15.24 meters square. The original altar is 2.44 meters high on the road. The main part of the memorial is 17.68m high, 0.91m thick and 115.82m long bored walls made of brick. This is the symbol of the original idol of Rayer Bazar, where the bodies of the intellectuals were read. The wall is broken by two. The broken wall indicates the grief and sadness of the incident. On the south-western side of the wall there is a window of 6.10 meters square. The sky behind the window can be seen. The window reduces the magnitude of the wall.

There is a fixed reservoir on the front of the curved wall. A pillar of black granite stone has emerged from the reservoir. This is the symbol of mourning. The main entrance to the monument is in the south-eastern corner of the courtyard. By entering this, the visitors face a banyan tree. This banyan tree is a symbol of the original banyan tree in the nearby body-education college premises. Under the original tree, martyr intellectuals were initially tortured and tortured and then killed in Itkhola. Other trees that are planted in the chamber, except for evergreens, have dropped out at certain times. These trees remain unmanned in December. At this annual event, festivity becomes more emotional.

There is a small museum, a library with office rooms, and a future planning to build a graveyard in the auspicious grounds.
