This Monday night thousands of people around the world contemplated the first supermoon of the new year 2018.
This impressive phenomenon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth. It was approximately 326,565 kilometers away, against an average distance of just over 384,000 kilometers.
For this reason, the natural satellite was 14% larger and 30% brighter.
It is also expected that next January 31 the phenomenon will be repeated, which will be called Blue Moon, because it will be the second of the two full moons in the same month. In addition, an eclipse is expected in the coming months.
The last super moons occurred on November 14 and December 3 in the early hours of the morning, of course, none so spectacular as the one that gave us this new year.
