7 Day Positivity Challenge - Day 1

Time

Three times a charm

So I have now been nominated by three individuals, @viking-ventures, @happycrazycon & @holisticmom for this 7 Day Positivity Challenge and then encouraged by @danielsaori to join in when I found the time. So that is what my day one shall be about time.

I also stumbled upon @surpassinggoogle's ulogger's after being invited to play on @dreemsteems's mistake post and fell in love with the quote he stated, so much so that did some more research and given time is limited decided that what I write is always tied back to me so this post would fit as my first ulog as well as any.

Time is one of those things that can easily slip through your fingers even if you set out to use it wisely, it is also one of those things once spent cannot be regained. Why then do we so often wish it away and at the same time wish for more?

Have you ever seen the movie "Click" produced by and starring Adam Sandler? The one where he continues to fast-forward through all the "boring/tedious" parts of his life only to soon realise that he was missing out on life itself as the remote takes control and starts to auto fast forward for him.

That is the perfect example of those moments we all quietly wish away. I mean who hasn't at one time or another wished away that last five minutes before knockoff, while wishing for an extra five minutes for lunch, or wishing the week away for that party or event on the weekend, only to wish that the event lasted forever. We all do and think nothing of it but time is something I have been thinking about a lot.

Not so much wishing it away but wanting it to slow down so that I had more. More to spend with my new adopted son, more to spend with my husband, more to spend on Steemit both posting I hate seeing more than three days between posts but with conflicting priorities it's been five sad days between posts and curating for the @asapers, more for my health advocacy projects and more for work, not because I want to work more but because like most of us I have deadlines that must be hit. Fun of being an accountant at year end!

Talking of slowing time down, why does time seem to speed up the older we get. This is something I thought I would never understand but after reading "The Productivity Epiphany" by Vincent Harris I was surprised I had never put two and two together before, as the answer is super simple.

You know what I am talking about right when you were a child summer holidays felt like forever, and when your mum told you to wait five minutes it seemed like hours, then as an adult, any holiday seems to disappear in the blink of an eye and that five minutes never seems long enough.

The simple answer is best spoken about in percentages... Yes, I am an accountant and numbers matter cause I a good at them, not maths so much but numbers in general. At age 5, when your mum tells you its bedtime in five minutes, you think there is enough time to build a forte and pull every book out of the cupboard because that five minutes represents a much larger percentage of your life.

What do I mean by that? It's simple at the age of 5, one year represents 20% of your life, at ten one year represents 10% of your life, at 50, that one year represents a sad 2%, and for this reason seems one fifth as long as it did at age ten.

Moral of the story, time is never slowing down and sadly year on year it will appear to move faster, so never put off today what you can do tomorrow as tomorrow is a smaller percentage of your life and will slip through your fingers faster than the day before.

What did this teach me? Stop wishing time away, even the mundane can be fun if you mix it up, love the time you do have and use it wisely. The main thing is to do what I can do and the rest will just have to wait, I do know that if I want to do it all then I will need to manage my time better but for now, I am finding my feet in the world of motherhood which is a fun place to be, the rest will happen maybe just as a slower pace regardless of the time moving faster.

As always thanks for reading and hope to see you next time.

Power Up and Steem ON!

How to play this challenge...

  • Write a post about something you have to be positive about today. This could be anything from being thankful for your current situation, someone being nice to you, being thankful for your friends and family, or even being thankful for the opportunity you have been given here on Steemit

Just keep it positive

  • Do this for 7 days in a row if you get nominated Note that I will not be doing this continuously but I will get 7 days out.

  • Mention three people who should do this on each day. Feel free to complete this challenge or not, it is up to you. It has taken me over a month to get day one out and it may take me another month to get the seven days out.

Given this has been out for a few months some of the people I mention may have already been nominated by another, so feel free to do it a second time or abstain from this round. I nominate @imaginedragon, @helenoftroy and @andysantics48

  • Tag it with #7daypositivitychallenge and include these rules at the bottom of your post.
Tip: You need to put the # in front of 7daypositivitychallenge or it will not let you use the tag.

  • Include a picture of something positive Related to your story if possible.

Haha, better late than never lol :D

This reminds me of one of my favorite short animated clips, "Life and Music" in which the Southpark creators animate a short part of a lecture by Alan Watts. Watts point of the piece is that life is not a race to some goal at the end, but more like music: you are supposed to sing and dance along the way. Check it out here:

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a genuine comment. I love #steemitbloggers and the community they have built. I havent watched heaps of south park and had missed this episode. My hubby loves south park. It has a good message in it.

There is no funny photo. Or are you referring to the one of me and Shai.

It's true - time is one of the greatest gifts we have, yet most of us take it for granted. And often when we think we're wasting time, we are actually learning.

That is so true even the mundane moments can teach us something, thanks for stopping by @natubat.

Hello this is an excellent initiative, try to do it for 21 days so that it becomes a habit you will change not only your thoughts but also your environment and if you are well those around you will also be .. Namaste

Are you talking about the #ulog or the #7daypositivitychallenge? Both are very positive but I can't commit to daily at this stage in my life but do love the idea of treating it a bit like a diary. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks a lot for this interesting writeup on time i am very happy to read your write up, for this really mean a lot to me

Moral of the story, time is never slowing down and sadly year on year it will appear to move faster, so never put off today what you can do tomorrow as tomorrow is a smaller percentage of your life and will slip through your fingers faster than the day before

I am glad my ramblings meant something to you. I am always wishing for more time or for it to slow down at least now I know why it feels as though it never does. :/

It never slow down because the more every living being grows the faster it become. More so, time can be liken to money, a scarce commodity whose value reduces with age. I could remember when i was in primary school, all i do request for as my pocket money used to be 50 naira ( which has a lot of value to me then) but the older i become the more it value decreases. Therefore, the older every man become, the shorter the time becomes.

@oluwashinaayomi an interesting way to think about it. I remember when my pocket money was low and it didn't matter as life was cheaper. Thanks for stopping by :D

You are welcome.

Yay you made it to the challenge, @insideoutlet! Yes, I watched Click by Adam Sandler. It was quite a thought-provoking movie at the end. When he was about to enjoy the moments, he realized he wasn't in control at all to even live them.

The main thing is to do what I can do and the rest will just have to wait, I do know that if I want to do it all then I will need to manage my time better but for now, I am finding my feet in the world of motherhood which is a fun place to be, the rest will happen maybe just as a slower pace regardless of the time moving faster.

I love your conclusion and how you can be positive about that! Some days of motherhood be like the feeling of we achieve nothing and some days a smile on their faces made us feel we achieve the world. Live our moments, be it fast or slow, because all of them make up LIFE itself :)

Haha, yes I did, although I have no idea what day two will be or when it will feature lol, I still have two babymoon parts left lol... Seems irrelevant now as so much time has passed lol but they are the best so I want to share the images lol..

I figure that positivity makes everything better and why wouldn't you want life to be great lol.

Live our moments, be it fast or slow, because all of them make up LIFE itself :)

I love this summary! <3

Finally, you caved haha I was nominated twice and waited a few weeks before I did mine :) So please, for the love of god, don't nominate me during your series haha

I love the movie Click; it's a great message! Like yours here too. I had a sister-in law whose kids were younger than another sister-in-law. She was always comparing her younger children to her older nephews and wishing for "the days when mine are that age". I used to think that she was missing out on so much enjoyment, simply waiting for time to pass. Made me sad really.

I love your idea of percentage and time too; I never considered that, mostly because me and numbers don't make a good marriage, but your explanation made perfect sense. I'm sure you will find these years with a child go even quicker...percentages or not! I spoke to my youngest today for a long time and just can't believe he's 20 already! Yikes, I must have had them when I was 12 lol

Hey hun, nice to see you stop on by, it's a better late than never situation although the 7 days straight is not going to happen, I can't even think of what to do for day two. On a positive note, I got a new @asapers out today lol, and the last one hit over 10STU which is awesome for the curated authors.

Haha I know your age but will not tell, I can say that you look way to young to have a 20 year old lol... I am glad you got to chat to him, I love when I get a good chat on with my mum, it doesn't happen often but its great when it does.

She was always comparing her younger children to her older nephews and wishing for "the days when mine are that age".

That is super sad, kinda like the people that just want to get to the destination so bad that they forget to enjoy the ride, life is that ride. Stay happy and awesome! xx

My 7 day positivity challenge was really a 6 day positivity challenge that lasted 3 weeks, but that's just way too long for a title :)

Haha I know your age but will not tell, I can say that you look way to young to have a 20 year old lol

love you :)

And yes, life is the ride! Enjoy it because we only get one of them :)

You stay happy and awesome too!!

A title can never be too long, just ask @jaichai. Love you too. Talk soon xxx

Hear, here!

I still haven't beat @vimukthi for the longest post title!

BTW, @vimukthi is scary smart and a really cool guy!

Namaste, JaiChai

@jaichai haha, I will have to check him out although in all honesty, I am not a huge fan of long titles, I think it loses something in the length, I am more a short concise kinda person lol..

haha @jaichai, reigning king with title length :)

hahaha no kidding!!

I would respond better but at the young age of 92 the time I have alocated...woops out of time

Haha, I still have faith in transhumanism and the abilty to live forever, so you are never too old. Haha.

Hello......long time no talk :( How have you been? How is baby?

I accept your challenge and I will start tomorrow. I am exhausted today. Baby is teething, so not sleeping and wants Mama to carry him all day. On a brighter note he said Mama for the first time yesterday. He has been saying dada for a few months and I was a little upset by that, so he has redeemed himself lol

I think time also seemed so slow when we were children because we did not have anything to do but be a kid. We ran in the woods, or swam, or played with our friends for hours. Time never ended until the sun fell. Now we have jobs, kids, bills, responsibilities that we dreamed of when we were kids. Now instead of just being ourselves and a kids were became an adult. It sucks

Being an adult is definitely not all it was promised to be when looking at it with kid coloured glasses.

The teetheing thing is a bitch. I feel for them but there is no break when they want to be carried all the time. He was very much like that at the start. Now he never knows what he wants. Except food, he would never stop eating if we kept feeding him. Haha.

Hes is awesome kid thats generally pretty happy and picking up new things daily. He was 16 months on Tuesday. How old is your youngest? I cant remember sorry. Must be similar or younger.

I will have to get onto day two today. There is no way I can post continuously atm as working as well. Fun of being an accountant in Australia. Its financial year end and crazy busy.

Lucky @shai-hulud is such a good stay at home daddy. He did hurt his back yesterday which is crappy and little man did not sleep last night. Decided it was playtime from 1am.

Im glad he redeemed himself. Thana knows who dada is and can say mama but not to me lol. We get other sounds but no words yet but given until a month ago he never heard english I think his doing well.

I look forward to reading your positivity posts. Xx

He sounds amazing, you must be so thrilled. That is so great he is picking it up so well. They are like a sponge at this age. If you want to hear full words try saying bad words in front of him and pretend you didn't mean too. He will pick them up quick to make you laugh. It's hilarious. Dregon, our son with Autism, said Shit today and we laughed and now he won't stop saying it lol

Our little one is 8 months old. He is just now sitting up on his own and today pulled himself up on a box to a standing position. I'm praying he is not walking at 9 months, I will go crazy lol

I was going the accounting route at one time. I love the numbers and how it all has to be even at the end. It all has a point, unlike Algebra lol I understand how busy you must be.

I can't wait to read your day two and I hope to have mine posted tomorrow. Great talking to you :)

Haha I'm sure he will be swearing in no time. We need to remember not to swear in front of him but its hard when your talking to him. Hahaha. JJ. Kinda.

Fingers crossed yours is not walking anytime soon lol. Look forward to checking it out. Talk soon, well in the future at least lol.

Thats exciting, thank you so much. Love the support. 😁

Wow, thanks for the perspective shift! And great timing, given I'm sitting here wishing away the next few hours - a pipe burst in our basement last night, so we're without running water until the repair guy gets here. What better time to practice appreciating the moment I'm in (and given there are five of us here, and one bathroom with a toilet we can't flush right now, it's gonna be quite the challenge...LOL!).

In all seriousness, since I'm not a numbers girl, the idea of percentages (5 minutes to a child versus an adult) never occurred to me, but it makes such sense! Definitely going to keep that in mind next time I wonder why the weekend disappeared so fast.

Sending good juju to you and your family as you find your motherhood footing (spoiler alert - my three are 23, 21, and 18 and I'm still trying to find my groove...lol). Bright blessings to you! 😊

Well, I can understand possibly wanting to wish that moment away, five people and one unworking toilet would be a nightmare for me, I think I would venture out to the local shops with a toilet and hot chocolate haha.

I am a maths person and it took me seeing a line in that book to get it so simply, before that I just thought it was a head thing lol... But too many think the same, time speeds us as we get older. You look way too young to have three kiddlets that old.

I hope that your basement is fixed now or at least you have a working toilet.

That would've been my plan as well, except I was in desperate need of a shower, and didn't want anyone calling a hazmat team in...LOL! Luckily the plumbers showed up not long after my reply, and had things sorted in very short order (at least for now - apparently there needs to be a bigger fix down the road). And we managed to flush a couple of times with reserve water, so - YAY!

And thank you for your kind words, but to be fair, my profile picture is about ten years old (I sooooo don't like taking selfies - LOL). Maybe I should update it in honor of my upcoming 53rd birthday... maybe... 😜

Oh, and I almost forgot - I "stole" a couple of your paragraphs in my latest post (Photos from the first week of July 2018). Thanks again for giving me an "AHA!" moment. 😊

@traciyork haha, thanks for sharing my work, it made heaps of sense to me after I heard it lol. I am glad it's fixed for now and hope no issue crop up before you fix it for good. I used to hate takign selfies but these days I am a bit of a pro lol, tip - take too many and delete the crap, you need about 30 to get the perfect one at the start lol, now I can get it in about 3 lol...

Adam Sandler wisdom. Wisdom truly is found in the weirdest places. :D
What can i say to this... I agree. I dont really think i found myself ever in the place of wishing time away.. Ive wished to go back in time and fix stuff, but speed run it? No... Id rather stay that one hour younger for just a bit longer. :D

Haha, you gotta love some Sandler wisdom lol. Oh to go back in time, the things I could relieve. I would like to think I'd do most of it the same as before but enjoy the ride more. 😁
