ULOG #2 - Day Positivity Challenge - Day 2 - Learning

7 Day Positivity Challenge - Day 2

Learning

Since adopting our son the term learning has taken on a whole new meaning, he prior to meeting us a month ago had never known anything outside the orphanage, where he had spent his short little life. We are truly blessed that he choose us with the help of the relevant authorities and really do love every minute we get to spend with him.

Well, maybe not every, but who loves tantrums and sleepless nights, don't get me wrong, we still love him at that moment but maybe not love that moment. In all honesty, he really is a good kid and we really are super lucky. He sleeps well every other night and tantrums can generally be subdued with a distraction, the best by far to date is the zoo train or a trip outside.

One of these outside adventures involved a trip to collect the mail. While we didn't find any mail we did find the local newspaper. Distraction complete, now to see what we could learn from it. We took the paper inside and started by turning the pages until this became repetitive and unsatisfying and moved on to pulling it apart. Pulling it apart lead to scrunching and tearing all while throwing out random giggles and grunts.

PicsArt_07-12-11.46.55.png

We moved on from seek and destroy to hide and seek in his "nappy bag", we have a separate supply bag but we found this one a welcome distraction from the one full of distractions I would rather not have him pull out and spread around the house.

PicsArt_07-12-11.49.32.png

With the attention span of a gnat the bag was ditched for more of a scatter and stomp method, soon after the giggles subsided we did a cleanup and I thought got all the scraps of paper in the bin. I found out later that I had missed a bit still hidden in his bag as when my hubby @shai-hulud was making his bottle he pulled it out and proceeded to prove he learnt how to tear as he shreds it into little bits.

20180712_102401_1[1].gif

Imagine his surprise to turn around after 30 seconds to see his newly washed and vacuumed floor covered in bits of newspaper, still makes me laugh now thinking about it. He really is super adorable and no I am not a shite photography that misses his face in every shot. In Australia, there are laws around showing identifiable images online until the adoption is complete 6-9month post arriving back in the country.

While this causes me great pain not to share his full cuteness with you all I thought I would share glimpses of his ability to learn fast. I only showed him how to tear once and he copied me, he does this with dad all the time but not often with me so it was a win for mum, not that this is a competition, we love him and he loves us even if he can't express it in words.

He actually gave me a real kiss today, he usually just gives me his cheek to kiss, but no he kissed mine.

Not only is our awesome son learning new things daily, us too as parents are learning new things daily, one thing that daddy learnt recently is that cutting a toddlers hair even with a mini shaver is not a good idea, they do not make the model clients and rarely sit still.

20180711_182239.jpg

Did he tell me he tried to cut his hair? No, I upon snuggling after returning home from work noticed this ridiculous straight line. When I asked him why he would attempt such a thing, he told me it looked as if his hair was annoying his ears so he thought a quick trim could only help. I couldn't keep a straight face and cracked up laughing. Hair grows back so no harm no foul, but we did discuss not doing this again in the future without help.

Ever laugh so hard you cried?

I made my hubby proofread this pre clicking the post button, I do this on the odd occasion to get his input, this post however it was not to get his input to make sure he saw his learning section. He got to the photo and knew instantly that was why he was asked to proofread it, turning to confirm that was the reason he found me laughing so hard that tears were streaming down my face, he was already laughing and soon had tears in his eyes as he continued to crack up and read my breakdown of his learnt lesson.

I do love you so very much husband!

As always thanks for reading and hope you got a laugh and some learnings from this too. See you next time!

The challenge...

Three times a charm

So I had been nominated by three individuals, @viking-ventures, @happycrazycon & @holisticmom, then encouraged by @danielsaori to join so here I am. See below for what the challenge entails.

  • Write a post about something you have to be positive about today. This could be anything from being thankful for your current situation, someone being nice to you, being thankful for your friends and family, or even being thankful for the opportunity you have been given here on Steemit

Just keep it positive

  • Do this for 7 days in a row if you get nominated Note that I will not be doing this continuously but I will get 7 days out.

  • Mention three people who should do this on each day. Feel free to complete this challenge or not, it is up to you. It has taken me over a month to get day one out and it may take me another month to get the seven days out.

Given this has been out for a few months some of the people I mention may have already been nominated by another, so feel free to do it a second time or abstain from this round. I nominate @lapb, @ and @

  • Tag it with #7daypositivitychallenge and include these rules at the bottom of your post.
Tip: You need to put the # in front of 7daypositivitychallenge or it will not let you use the tag.

  • Include a picture of something positive Related to your story if possible.

How do you feel knowing that you have literally changed the future of this child for the better?

for the things that you have told in this post he is very naughty !! these children are the best to teach them sports or skills that keep them active and distracted!

Haha, thanks @malos10, qe are also teaching him those things but its winter right now and been quiet wet. We dont teach kicking or throwing in the house so that kind of teaching us left for sunny days. 😁

winter?

What is winter? what is snow?

(joke)

Hopefully in a couple months we will see a Ulog yours in a sunny day playing with your kid <3

my best vibes and wishes for you all!

Thank you, we have dome amazing shots of him playing chasey with us but the shots show his face so goes a bit beyond what Im allowed to share. I cant wait until we can share those, his pretty cute 💜😁

Lol. As I was scrolling down, I saw the picture of his hair before I read what you wrote. I figured he tried to cut his own hair. I did that when I was a kid. I was a little older though. kindergarten. It's funny that your husband did it. He was just trying to help the little guy out. Lol

Im here crying again while laughing. He stopped wgat he was watching to ask me why I was laughing and while continuing to cry read your comment. He started laughing again. Whike saying. I was just trying to help the little fella out.

Nice memories.
Creating memories each and every day and remembering them after time to time and laughing what we did at that moment.
This is life.
Thanks for sharing your memorable moments with us !
have a blessed life
Take Care

Thank you, he melts our heart when he laughs ans smiles. His so inquisitive and loves learning. Have a lovely weekend.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Your son is very blessed to have both of you as his parents.

PS. The little hand on the floor sort of creeped me out. :-)

Haha, we had hoped someone would notice mini hand. Hahaha, we got that in Florida, its fun to stroke someones face when they arent expecting ut. Super creepy. Haha. He loves playing with it.

Well, at least, it's not a big hand, because then, that would totally creep anyone out. Haha!

Hahahahaha...

Wanna do a park play sometime? The kids might steal him for a bit XD Toddlers are the best!

Haha, hes so cute I'd wanna steal him if he wasn't already ours. We arent up for play dates just yet but will hopefully be in the coming month or so. We are still in the bonding stage of the relationship and have to stay close to home with limited visitors. Good thing its winter and chilly atm. Come spring we are hoping to get out and about with him more.

HAHA. stay positive no matter what! You are very taught!

You are very taught!

This made me laugh as I was like there are no photos of me in there haha..

He's so adorable @insideoutlet. Looks like you guys are really starting to bond. So cute that he kissed you for the first time, I actually got a bit teary as I can just imagine what a special moment that was for you.

Thank you @jusipassetti, I was so happy, it really is the small things in life. He does seem to be bonding well but you never really know until you test those bonds and at this time his interaction with others outside us is very limited. We did visit a friend today and that went well. :D

Oh oh oh!!! I missed that you've had the little guy home for a month!! He sure does look like a cutie. Yes, they learn stuff quickly - especially destructive stuff!! Ha! Super congratulations to you guys!! I know he's happy to have a mom and dad!!

Thank you @apanamamama, I haven't posted much about it, I do comment a lot about him as everything seems to link back to his cute face atm lol. He is learning so fast, I love that he can high five now. His little hand is adorable, he also waves hi and bye but rarely at the right time lol.

I will for lack of words say this is simply beautiful. And yes, the learning will be long, the discoveries many...you better be ready.

Awww thank you @mirrors, its fun exploring with him. His so easy to love.

Awww I love love love this post!! He is so darn cute, even if I can't see his full face. That's a very interesting law in place by the way. And his little robe...I just want to squish him in a big hug!!

He kissed you!!! <3

hahaha @shai-hulud, nice trim job buddy :)

I'm passing this sweet post off to c-squared. Hope they visit :)

Thanks, hun, I hope they do too, they are a great team :D I loved writing it, there was so much more but I didn't' think I would be able to not share more images lol, so I kept it to this. His robe is so adorable, it's so chilly for him in comparison to where he came from that I wrap him up when at home and put the heaters on morning and evenings. Side note, did you see creepy baby hand. hahaha...

ahhhhh I just saw creepy baby hand under the newspapers!!! hahaha I hadn't noticed it :)

I never thought about that, but of course he must be freezing!! So awesome to snuggle up with him in that robe :)

I wish he was more of a snuggler lol. His not really good at cuddle unless his upset and then its for a second and im all good now put me down lol

haha that's funny. My youngest was not a cuddler unless he was sick. Selfishly, I appreciated the days when he was sick so we could hang out and cuddle on the couch for hours 😎 How bad is that? 😅

@lynncoyle1 haha not bad at all, so long as it didn't affect his sleep lol, I am not good on limited sleep lol... He is loving books atm which is a good thing for more than one reason but my fav is that he brings it to you and then wants to sit on your lap while you read it to him, while he turns the pages, sometimes too fast for us to read lol.

awww that's so cute @insideoutlet!!! That's a good thing that he likes that!

As an aside, what's the gist of the whole ULOG thing?

@lynncoyle1 I think it's just like a diary a little bit of you daily supported by @surpassinggoogle, basically you are the star of your own story :D

@lynncoyle1 hahaha, how cute is creepy hand, lol... He has some ugg boots too but hates them and has figured out how to pull the velcro off so they never stay on for lol lol.

I was thinking of creepy hand the other day when I took a photo of something for my post, and when I was proofreading it, that's all I could see was my one lone foot sticking out in the corner of the photo! Creepy foot, meet creepy hand haha

aww and UGGS are so darn cute too!!

@lynncoyle1 haha that is funny! all they need is a pair and we have the start of creepy stein... and yes uggs are adorable, especially in mini sizes. :D

There's a good contest in this somewhere I think @insideoutlet 😅

haha pull all the creepy things together contest, lol...

Thanks for sharing bits of your happiness with us! I don't post identifiable photos with my son online for a long list of reasons, so I totally get you.
As for laughing with tears, I am guilty of it. Especially when my kid tries to imitate one of my family members.

Especially when my kid tries to imitate one of my family members.

Haha, that would be funny for sure. I have many friends that don't share on SM, and others that are baby crazy and I feel a bit sorry for the kid as when he grows up he will have to live with the millions of images of his butt online, lol..

Hahahaha this is very hilarious, especially the part you got your husband to proofread lol. He cut your son's hair? That's so much courage. Looks like parenthood has been fun for you two, yahoo!!! He is very adorable, @insideoutlet <3

Im not sure courage is the word I would use lol.. its fun and challenging as woth most things children related. He woke at 4am and refused to go back to sleep so today is an interesting day. Exhaust by ten am lol.

WOW! What a great post this is! I often felt when my children were babies, that they taught me to see the world differently. I would see things they way they did, that everything was new and wonderful to discover. Just the adventures we had inside the house brought so much fun, when we got outside it was amazing! The touch of grass, the colours of flowers, the feeling of the breeze. I felt everything they did through their emotions. It looks like it is the same way with you both.

Happy times and great memories I wish upon you all ;)

He loves outside and we go out most days unless the weather is crap which is more often than I would like atm. Its winter here and much colder than our normal ones so very chilly for a little one coming from Thailand. He hasn't got into flowers much but love leaves and the grass so far. They do make you appreciate the small things a lot more. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the info, I did not know that :D

What a great post, and what a great kid, even without seeing his face.

Parenthood is challenging, you will always balance between giving them space to grow by making mistakes, and set bounderies to limit danger and other mishap.

Parenthood is a gift too, you get to see the world again through the eyes of a child. That is priceless, see the wonders. I recently wrote a post about that, how I would like to be able to experience that one more time, be the child and discover the world, not knowing that it is all explainable by science and math. Unfortunately it is in Dutch.

Tantrums, they are part of the package. He doesn't have the words yet so what else is there to do? You'll get the hang of knowing when he is just trying to be boss and when something is really bothering him. And... you are going to be wrong from time to time. It happens, we are human.

Sounds like you are doing great. He needs your guidance and love, room to grow but also a safety net.
Enjoy eachother, have fun!

Wow to be bilingual is an awesome skillto have. I have no such skills but google translate is a good tool that gets the majority correct.

He is very demanding in regards to food but thats to be expected coming from an orphanage, he has only been with us a month so we are all learning together. He is adorable and easy to love which is a huge positive.

This is the post. I checked Google's translation, it is not perfect, some phrases come out completely wrong, but I guess you'll get it.

It is a great trip for the three of you. Slowly getting to know eachother, the good and the bad. Learning to trust, that is a tough one. It all works both ways. There is one bad thing about being a parent, not sure anyone told you yet, but maybe you felt it already. The moment those little feet tiptoe into your life, you develop a vulnerablitly the size of the earth, but it is worth it :)

For native English/American speaking people, there is often no need to learn a different language. You can travel the world and most people will understand what you are saying right away. I think more people than you are aware of envy you for that.

Living in a great, small country, speaking a language that is hardly spoken anywhere else, we are kind of forced to learn other languages. We have to learn at least English if we want to talk to the rest of the world.

At our schools, English is mandatory, German and French are optional. Some schools offer Spanish and Chinese as well.

Where are you from? The google translate did a great job and I do love that it helps us transcend the language barriers, Trust does wok both ways, we are learning things together daily and it really is so cute getting to know his little personality. I really appreciate the time you took to comment so thank you for stopping by and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

I have only been reading your posts for a few weeks, I think. Just love the way you tell your stories :)
Thanks for reading my post. I am from the Netherlands.

Hey @ijmmai, thanks for stopping by and you are most welcome. I love to share stuff with my fellow Steemians and am glad when people enjoy my writing styles. I would love to visit the Netherlands one day but need to gather some serious fund as we wouldn't want to stop there, we would want to do the whole of Europe with a toddler in tow so that would cost a bit for comfort lol. :D

Europe will be fun, there is a lot to see and visit. You'll see :)
And you are so right about traveling with a toddler, better wait til it is fun for him too.

Yeah and to win the lotto so we can enjoy it fully lol.

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

Great that you are doing well with the parenting and making mistakes and learning! He is older than I expected! I had in my mind that he was a baby still...

Nope we met him the day after he turned 15months, so more a toddler than a baby but his our baby. He was up at 4am this morning so that was fun.

We get the 2am screaming! She's getting her last tooth, so we are going easy on her at the moment with the sleep... Our youngest is similar age to your boy, a bit older, closing on 2 years in a few months.

Yeah, the teething kills us, it's mainly cause we don't know what's going on and there isn't a huge amount we can do to help him, this morning he was awake from 3 till about 5:30am... He only has 8 teeth now but more are coming, it's going ot be a painful period until they all sprout out. Good luck with your last one lol.

@c-squared thanks guys for upvoting my content. :D

My kids loved Thomas the train and now my grandsons play with the trains and tracks leftover from when MY boys were little. It's so sweet.

And yes, distraction is the name of the game when they're little (and not so little!)

The haircuts make for great memories at least :)

Wonderful post. Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Thanks for popping by @byn, lots of memories to be made he learns so fast. He loves real trains too, we live not too far from the train lines and he can hear when they approach the crossing. He always points out the door when he hears the horn.

Do I need to be nominated to do this contest, or can I just join in on the fun? Lovely entry btw :)

Consider yourself nominated, I forgot to add three to this post, only got one listed, so your helping me out by nor having to choose lol. I look forward to your 7 day positivity challenge. Good luck 😁

Sweet! I’ll be starting the challenge next week, I’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me :) Cheers!

@k0wsk1 Hope you had a fun busy weekend and got everything done you needed too as it's raining here and been a quite inside kinda weekend. :D Enjoy the positivity challenge.
