My Name is Jon and I'm an Alcoholic....

This is My Story about my journey through AA.

Hi, my name is Jon and I'm an addict and alcoholic.  This is my story and I hope it helps someone in need.  I hope to make this a series of posts in that if you are looking for help but either are embarrassed or ashamed, look no further.

I'm 37 and have 11 months clean and sober currently.  I have relapsed and gone back to drinking and drugging  few times over the past 5 years.  However, the one thing that counts is getting back up after falling down.  I'm not here to preach...just to tell my story of what it was like, what happened, and what it's like today.

Many people think of AA as a religious group or a cult.  It is neither. It is  a fellowship of men and women who use the concept of a "higher power" to achieve sobriety.  This power could be God, the Universe, a tree, or the AA group of people as a whole.  Basically, it is something greater than yourself.

I know, I know...you're saying, "I don't have a problem...I don't need this program."  I said that many of times at the beginning.  This leads us to the first step of this 12 step program which says that, "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable."  This is the first major hurdle and took me a long time to realize.

Stay tuned for more .

I'll be five years sober this Saturday, 24th June. Stick with it because life only gets better. Drop me a line if you need any help.

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you're on the right track.

Thanks! I just want the stigma of alcoholism and addiction to go away. It can affect anyone, white, black, young, old, rich, poor, etc.

Alcohol isn't bad in moderation. It's when you abuse it to get away from something. Actually marijuana is safer then alcohol in health and mood wise.

Stay strong! Looking forward to your positive progression. Thanks for sharing
