Chaudhary Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri) of Indian origin stayed in London in England, later he comes to India. He is very traditional and is sure of discipline. He is survived by his wife Lajwanti 'Lajjo' and 2 daughters. The eldest girl is named Simran (Kajol) while the youngest girl is named Rajeshwari. When Simran was very young, Baldev promised to marry Simran with his childhood friend Ajit's boy. Meanwhile, Simran gets an opportunity to travel to Europe, she somehow convinces her father and leaves by promising to return in 1 month. This is where the love story takes a turn. In Europe, he meets Raj Malhotra (Shahrukh Khan). Raj Malhotra is the cherished boy of Dharamvir Malhotra (Anupam Kher). Both are very rich and most importantly, they live like a friend. In Europe, Raj is attracted to Simran, initially there is a lot of difference between the two. The altercation of the two slowly turns into love and she is completely transformed when Simran returns home. He was in love. She does not like anything when she comes home. One day when she talks to her father, he gets angry about it and immediately brings Simran to India and decides to marry his friend Ajit's boy. In the end, Baldev Singh has to succumb to the love of Simran and Raj Malhotra as he realizes that treatment cannot find a better life partner for him. That is why Ja Simran ji takes his life. With this, the film ends.
