This is a story of the time I met Hong Alex, the dirctor of Bong Joon-ho's , who received the Golden Palm 2019 Award from Cannes.
He made his debut as a 'Girls' Night Out' (1998), 'Phantom the Submarine' (1999), 'Save the Green Planet' (2003) 'The Foul King' (2000), 'Snowpiercer' (2013) 'The Wailing' (2016) 'Burning' (2018) He has shown many great films so far, it is truly hard to choose the major work.
The is a film that he worked with Bong Joon-ho after 5 years since .
To read into the interview, he filmed during the summer for the first time, when he used to film in the winter for the past 8 years. Note this, summer is not usually the preferred season for cinematographers.
In addition, his film has been in the competition category of Cannes International Film Festival for two years in a row after his previous film .
A ray of light that falls into the house from outside through the window implicates their intimate, necessitous lives. On the other hand, the waves of light pouring through the whole glass window in the living room of Park (Lee Sun-kyun) reveal a bright and wealthy life, even without any particular lighting.
Hong was staying there to location hunting for his new film, "Save me from evil" (director Hong Won-chan, production Hive Media Corp).
When the was awarded the Golden Palms Award in Cannes, he was watching it being broadcasted in Thailand Bangkok.
He’s usually being inattentive and shy about a prize or an award. So from this fact, we can assume how much means to him.
Thus, as soon as Hong came back from Thailand, I met him and talked about the shooting of the . The interview with him can be found in <Cine 21> which will be published tomorrow.
(After the interview, I took a picture with cinematographer Hong Alex. We’ve known for a while but this is the first time I took a picture with him.)
