Drama Review: Full House (Korean Ver.)

in aaa •  5 years ago

If anyone asked how I got hooked to watching Korean dramas, my response will always be "Full House". Number one reason is because of the singer/actor, Rain (major fan back in the days) and secondly, the drama had light and cute plot all the way through... unlike some dramatic K-dramas where first episode someone tragically dies and all the heavy emotions just rains down for the next half of the drama.

Known to be a Kdrama classic, this drama aired back in 2004 and earned itself high ratings and love from viewers around the globe. The drama was loved by so many viewers internationally that it was remade by multiple countries like Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and soon China will also have their remake too. I can assure you that my family also owns the DVD with English subtitles and another version with Cantonese dub and this is only because they enjoyed this drama quite a fair bit too.

Full House is about a bubbly girl named Han Ji Eun (played by Song Hye Kyo) who is a writer. One day her two best friends tricked her by sending her on a holiday followed by selling her house and also her belongings. During her holiday, she became acquainted through an unfortunate event on the plane with a famous actor named Young Jae (played by Rain).

On Ji Eun's return from her holiday, she realised that her house has been sold and the new owner of the house is Young Jae. Although they did not get along, they came to an agreement that they will live together only because he found out the house was sold without her permission and eventually they entered a contract marriage for a year. Why the contract? She wants her house back and he wants to make the woman he was interested in, jealous (what's a kdrama without 3rd or 4th parties?). Through many events, the two grew closer and eventually had real feelings for each other.

I guess you can say the plot is a typical one these days however keep in mind, it was made back before the plot became overly used these days. Plus its those typical ones that are also very enjoyable to watch especially if they have really good OSTs aka theme songs. To name a few, the popular OSTs in this drama that made it such a hit are:

  • I Think I - Byul
  • 그대 지금 - Lyn

If you're a sucker for lighthearted rom-coms like I am, Full House definitely hits the spot on point. This one is highly recommended if you haven't seen it yet!
