Winter is a period of colds, and our voice is also affected. In case of cooling symptoms, the vocal cords are stressed by rhinitis and mucus deposits, so the voice becomes hoarse or even lost. But what can we do to combat hoarseness?
We fall asleep with a cold to find ourselves in the morning with a hoarse voice or, worse, without a voice. A disadvantage not a little, since it makes it difficult to speak. Hoarseness is often harmless and disappears again after a few days. However, if the ailments still persist after three weeks, it is strongly recommended to undergo a medical examination. Find out below what you should or should not do in case of hoarseness.
Silence is gold
The most important thing is to save the vocal cords. So try to avoid speaking as much as possible. If this is not feasible, lower the tone of the voice at least. It is not recommended in particular to whisper or lighten the voice often, as this produces a rubbing of the vocal cords which increases irritation.
Moisture is good
Keep your vocal cords moist by drinking a lot. Especially hot drinks like tea or warm milk are good. Pay attention that the liquids to be taken are not too cold or hot. Throat sweets can also help, as sucking them stimulates the production of saliva that humidifies the throat. Make sure the rooms you are in have a high level of humidity in the air.
Proper nutrition
Although it is essential to drink a lot of hoarseness, avoid coffee and fruit juices; in fact, the acidity they contain goes to irritate the vocal cords. During meals make sure that the foods are not too spicy or excessively hot or cold.
Give up tobacco and alcohol
In order to allow the vocal cords to recover quickly it is important not to smoke, also avoiding passive smoking, eg. in rooms where you smoke, where the air you breathe irritates the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat. It would be better to renounce alcohol, especially spirits.
