This study showed that state abortion restrictions are associated with increased suicide rates for women of reproductive age.

They looked at the period from 1976 to 2016 and used the introduction of Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP) laws as the state exposures. The controls were motor vehicle fatalities. And they looked at suicide rates among postreproductive women, which did not rise following enforcement of the TRAP laws.

These types of studies are always difficult to do, but interesting design here.

The effects of abortion restrictions may manifest in many different ways than just more forced births and unsafe abortions.
