This is what happened to Romania's maternal mortality when it legalized abortion.
Despite how developed and wealthy the US is we actually have a maternal mortality rate on par with Romania. It is one of the greatest failures of the US healthcare system. Much of it due to unequal access to care and social determinants of health. While maternal mortality is declining in much of the developed world, it is actually rising in the US
As for abortion bans, they don't serve as good ways to reduce the numbers of abortions, but they do raise the maternal mortality rate from unsafe abortions essentially forcing many women to carry pregnancies to term.
It is unfortunate that many of the states with the highest maternal mortality rates are likely to restrict or outright ban abortion if Roe is overturned.
Even more unfortunate, is that most of these deaths are occurring among Black and Hispanic women which statistically have a higher rate of maternal mortality than white women in the US.
