The Aceh Tsunami Museum was opened in 2009 and was purposefully built to commemorate the story of the Aceh tsunami, the tsunami victims and the rewards of the countries that contributed to the recovery of the period.

Aceh Tsunami Museum is also used as a center for research and learning about the tsunami disaster and also serve as an evacuation center if one day this unwanted disaster back again.

In addition to magnificent, beautiful buildings in the architect Kang Emil has many meanings of each landscape. For example, when entering this stage-style museum building you have to pass through a narrow and dark passage between two towering water walls. The Aceh Tsunami Museum is located in downtown Banda Aceh, precisely at Sultan Iskandar Muda Street, adjacent to Blang Padang Square and approximately 400 meters from the religious site of the Baiturrahman Mosque.
