The situation in Aceh in 1999, is a strange situation.
Aceh really looks like a country against the invaders.
After the additional Indonesian military (DOM troops dispatched in Suharto's time) were discharged to their respective headquarters on the island of Java and Sumatra, in Aceh the official army was normal compared to the population in Aceh.
GAM Rekruitmen
The followers of Hasan Tiro, campaigning fighting resistance to every village in Aceh. Their targets are young people. They are all invited to become GAM soldiers.
GAM soldiers are growing rapidly, many. Youth former nobody, some month before, then has power in society. Some of them also have weapons, and others, pretend to have.
Propaganda excellence of the former Libya, and international propaganda support for Aceh Merdeka, create its own charm.
However, until peace in 2005, even today, there is no evidence that any country supports ASNLF, moreover the UN.

Attitude of Government of Indonesia
At that time, to fight GAM rebels, the Indonesian President sent many troops from police and soldiers, and several army troops, under the name of PPRM (Troops of mass rioters).
The troop uniform is not brown like a police or soldier's, but the green is rather dark.
From its name, indicates, the Indonesian officials in Jakarta, still regard, resistance in Aceh as ordinary chaos, not a severe insurrection. That's one of their mistakes.
Many of the PPRM trucks were shot with bullets and grenade lontar in Aceh. They had to wear truck walls with thick steel layers and coconut palms, as well as truck windshields, steel, except for a few, for drivers to see the road. The model of the truck, retained by the Indonesian military and police in Aceh, until 2005.
Modification Truck Indonesian Army
However, no one is aware that Indonesia has modified the army truck the strangest in the world, because the army and their police fought with the GAM forces, who had weapons not just assault rifles. While the existing sophisticated trucks, such as tanks, banser, are not enough, were brought by then.
Indonesia is unlikely sends too many security forces troops to Aceh, due to other areas also potentially similar conflict, although not as bad as in Aceh
Again, political and economic chaotic problems in Indonesia causing the State Palace, unable to settle the Aceh problem properly. For this period, approximately the 2000s, can no longer be called omission, but indeed GAM is already big and strong.
Civil Activist Struggle
Civil activists are working hard continuously for peace in Aceh. They contacted all parties in power in the world to stop the war in Aceh. The war of the time, has caused people to die, schools burned, and much of the property is damaged and lost, cultural customs chaotic, mental people terrible disease fear and suspicious. Men and women experience the same mental disorder, experiencing the same warming.
While the gunmen, just think how they can win the battle and ideology they believe can live in Aceh.
======
Now, Hasan Tiro has pased away in an old age. His followers, GAM, a few years before Hasan Tiro passed away has made peace with RI, a long-lasting peace, no plans to fight again. Now Aceh is peaceful, Hasan Tiro's followers have agreed to build Aceh in NKRI.
