  • ChatGPT has become a popular tech buzzword following its launch in November of last year, due to its ability to generate responses that are similar to human responses to queries. As a result of its popularity, some individuals have attempted to profit by creating fake apps and offering them on App Store and Play Store. These apps often defraud users by charging for a product that is typically available for free.

  • When searching for ChatGPT on the Play Store, one may come across several results, such as an app called "ChatGPT Chat GPT AI with GPT-3." This app was able to gain tens of thousands of downloads and positive reviews before it was removed from the App Store. The creators of this app likely used keyword stuffing in the app's name in order to increase its visibility when users search for related products on the App Store.

  • This app was charging a fee of up to $49.99 for ad-free usage, indicating that the developer was able to make a significant profit during the time it was available on the App Store. It is important to be aware of these fake apps and to exercise caution when downloading or purchasing any products related to ChatGPT.

  • If you come across a fake or harmful "ChatGPT" app on the Google Play Store, there are steps you can take to flag it as inappropriate. To do so, go to the app's listing page and tap on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. Select "Flag as inappropriate" and specify that the app is a "Copycat or impersonation" in the reason for flagging it.

  • Similarly, if you encounter a fake or malicious "ChatGPT" app on the Apple App Store, you can report it as a scam or fraud. To do this, go to the app's listing page, scroll down to "Report a problem," tap it, and then select "Report a scam or fraud." This will alert the App Store of the issue and prompt them to take action. By reporting these fake apps, you can help protect other users from falling victim to fraud.
