I haven't turned off their text notifications.
Of course, I've received four texts from them today. I've been receiving two a day since the election. Most of them have broadly been targeted at fighting the next four years of Trump.
I didn't get bombarded after Biden won. In fact, I didn't get a single text about the Disinformation Governance Board. What's more, the ACLU and its employees have made more statements that have been hostile to free speech than they have about actually defending the First Amendment over the last several years -- hence why I stopped giving money to them.
The thing is, I was always wrong to donate to the ACLU. I was under some delusion that they were still doing the good, principled work of dudes like Aryen Neier.
Regardless of where you stand politically, it should be understood that the ACLU is no longer the organization that would fight for civil liberties regardless of which party happened to threaten them. The ACLU is now a mouthpiece for the Democratic party.
That's fine. There's no dearth of nonprofit mouthpieces on either side. It's just a tragedy that the organization that once stood on principle is toeing a damn line.
