Loud ticking clock fix

I have a clock that is just a small batery powered clock that is suitable for traveling. The major drawback is the ticking is loud and it bothered me, so I took the clock apart and I cut two cotton facial wipes to fit inside.

I figgured the cotton material would dampen the sound, like a pillow helps to supress the sound in a base drum
