Actifit Daily: Actifit Response To Witness Survey V1. Top Daily Actifitters. Doubled UP Winners & Delegations.

in actifit •  6 years ago

This update represents a compilation of the recent news, updates and projections about our Actifit project, including top actifitters for the preceding voting cycle, as well as updates on our account and delegations !

Today's update is a special edition, as we decided to, and instead of creating two separate posts, integrate our response to the witness survey (more on that below) into our daily update to avoid creating more than one post per day.

Without further delays, on to the post :)

Witness Survey - Actifit Response

Almost a month ago, we saw the initiation of @witnesssurvey, which introduced itself as a " a tool for the wider Steem community to begin conversations with our elected witnesses." (source - intro post)

To accomplish this purpose, @witnesssurvey initiated this via a survey (clear from the name :)), the questions of which were picked up from the community - See post here for the info and relevant questions, and which were shared also via a message to each witness, to respond to as a post or a comment to that post.

We believe this approach is valuable for proper communication, and also represents a right for the community to better understand, communicate, and evaluate its choices for the representatives(witnesses) it votes [or will vote] for.

Actifit, as a witness, is compiling this post as a response to the above survey. We will list each question, and provide answer underneath. Here we go..

What is your position/stance on bid-bots (ownership/delegations/opinion)? - @abh12345, @ammonite

Bid-bots have been a very controversial topic since they first came into existence on the Steem blockchain.
While till date many are against bid-bots, and on the other side others swear by them, as Actifit, we are not against the use of upvote services (bid bots, or any similar paid upvote initiatives). In fact, if properly used (meaning used to upvote high quality content - which we label as "good use"), they provide the needed visibility for useful and good content to reach the massive Steem (and possibly non-Steem-based) audience. We think of using them as a similar approach to promoting your work on google ads, facebook ads, or the likes.

Abuse of bots would lie in low quality, pointless, or even plagiarized content to reach to landing page of the Steem blockchain interfaces via such upvotes. We have seen some great iniatitives by the community and even bot owners to fight abuse, and we believe this is a good approach, although not perfect, to counter the bad cases of abuse on the Steem blockchain.

Again, our stance is that, whether as the owner of this service, a delegator who's earning a revenue, or a user of this service, is that this use is completely up to those involved in this service, and it's really up up to them to decide to provide such a service, to delegate and earn income, and/or pay to benefit of this service.

What does the witness want to do to make the blockchain more user-friendly and help to on-board new users. What do THEY personally want to see done and what will they do to get it there? - @ericwilson

As Actifit, we are a project that is based on the Steem blockchain and that has built its own dapp (Android / iOS mobile apps, and related website actifit.io) that incentivizes users to live a healthier lifestyle via getting rewarded for their every day move. Walking to work, moving around the office, jogging, going to the gym, mowing your lawn, ... all could earn you rewards with both STEEM upvotes and AFIT tokens (our SMT token).

We have been rewarding users for the past 5 months and more, and believe that our dapp has the potential to onboard thousands if not millions of users in the future, and this is the core focus of our own for the time being.

We have been accumulating discounted accounts (582 at the moment) to onboard new users as we launch our upcoming onboarding process, and we already directly onboarded several users who have shown interest in Actifit and the Steem blockchain. We are also in communication with several other projects to work with the community on improved ideas in this area.

Do you think votes for witnesses should last indefinitely or should they time out (or perhaps decay over time) so that periodically voters will need to reevaluate and affirm their positions by recasting their votes? - @harvhat

The current stance of the blockchain, whereby votes last indefinitely, does not make much sense in our opinion, as a witness could possible change their approach, plans, fail to deliver, or even halt their witness role altogether.

Typically, we would love to see more engagement from the community in witness votes, and possibly some more motivation for users to actually practice their right to vote for their witnesses. We believe the current voting numbers are still too low.

Having said that, we also believe that the voting should be run in rounds; so for instance users would be incentivized to perform voting every 3, or maybe 6 months, somewhat similar to an election system whereby representatives are chosen for a particular term.

Do you think the 30 witness votes each steemian gets is the correct number, especially in light of the fact there are only 20 top witnesses to be seated? - @harvhat

We believe that 20 top witnesses is a fair number as it is.
Increasing that to 30 would probably provide further incentive and more reward for people who invest more thoroughly in the blockchain, but could risk causing a consensus to be more difficult.

Decreasing it on the other hand would also limit rewards further, and make the decision more constrained in the hands of less people, since top 20 witnesses are the ones involved in the consensus.

What is a concern or two that you have about the #steem blockchain? - @johnspalding

We believe Steem has a huge growth potential that is not anywhere close to have been tackled yet.

Unfortunately the last few years have seen very slow development and deliveries from Steemit inc, which has been a concern for a long time. Take for instance SMTs, they have been delayed over and over. Steemit Inc's communication has historically been also of very low frequency, an aspect that has been recently improving though.

Another is the major centralization at the time, whereby full nodes are very limited in number, and Steemit Inc is hosting one of the key nodes (api.steemit.com) with tremendous costs as announced officially by them.

We believe a move in the right direction is with Steemit inc putting more focus on proper delivery of their commitments, an approach to fixing full node requirements (the seeds of which have been announced recently - we hope it will be delivered), but also via more involvement from the community and decreased reliance on Steemit inc for fixing everything, which we have seen taking place recently.

What are you hopeful about for the #steem blockchain? - @johnspalding

In essence, everything aside from above is promising!
We have an amazing community.
We have fantastic dapps.
We have a great blockchain and a great technology that delivers.
We have growth potential to be one of the leading blockchains and to host tens of thousands if not millions of users.

What is the monthly cost of equipment? - @abh12345

We have lots of different costs for running our Actifit solution.
As this is a witness survey, to highlight the witness side of cost, we started running our witness over a month ago, with first month costing us 134$ (witness server setup + monthly subscription + conductor server).
For this month, our cost is at 44$, and should be at around same value monthly.

Where do your earnings go? - @abh12345

Our witness earnings go for covering server costs, as well to assist with other server and running costs for our Actifit project, wherever possible.

[What are some of your] Current projects? - @abh12345

Actifit is our main focus.

[Will you provide an] Alt accounts list? - @abh12345

We have @actifit, @actifit.pay, and @actifit.funds

What are the benefits associated with being a witness? - @klassic

We believe it is really a privilege to be a witness.
Being part of the key people/teams involved in running and maintaining the Steem blockchain, and helping Steem be more decentralized is something we are proud to be involved in.
Also being one of the top 20 witnesses, you are able to help out decide the vision of how the Steem blockchain should grow and progress. This is something we believe key dapps and projects, such as Actifit, need to be involved in.

How do I become a witness? - @steemingmark

You would need to buy or rent a server, set up latest version of Steem on it, and then announce yourself as a witness.
There are multiple great posts that detail the above. Feel free to check out any of them (keep in mind some might have outdated info due to older versions):

What do you think the SBD [STEEM] price for a new account should be? - @harvhat

We believe for the time being the 3 STEEM is a fair price for new accounts on the Steem blockchain.

What is a witness and how I become a good worker? - @rubaethsyed

A witness is basically a person/team who decided they would want to take part in running and maintaining the Steem blockchain, via participating in block witnessing/production.

Becoming a good worker means setting up a proper server that is capable of performing the needed job to accomplish the above. This also entails playing a positive and good role overall in improving the Steem blockchain while being helpful to the community.

Have you implemented any new procedures for evaluating potential hardforks? - @patrickulrich

As a relatively new witness, we started after HF20. Although we have not implemented any procedures ourselves, yet we believe any successful HF needs to be well-tested (by the community as well not only by developing entity - Steemit Inc) to cover a bulk of potential issues and scenarios, something which did not occur in HF20.

We did however take our part in testing the recent changes Steemit Inc implemented to their APIs to decrease the load on nodes. We were able to detect and report an issue, which was fixed by Steemit Inc team. We are proud to be able to help out with this.

How does a new user make the availability of his vote known to the cabal of witnesses wannabes trying to overthrow the current witness regime? - @grimgriz

The question is not quite clear, yet you can vote for your witnesses using Steemit's interface or Steemconnect. You could also try to engage witnesses to understand what their plans are, and/or follow them, read their blogs. This initiative helps as well.

Should we have interest for SBD? - @patrickulrich

We believe SBD is a good component of the Steem blockchain. Being "somewhat" pegged to the dollar makes SBD a good option similar to USDT and other dollar pegged crypto.
This could also give Steem more market visibility as being represented by not one but two cryptoassets, as some exchanges already host both STEEM and SBD.
And except for making calculations a bit difficult to grasp in payouts, we have not seen any real or direct shortcomings of having the duality of STEEM and SBD.

What takeaways do you have from the Hardfork 20 issues that occurred? - @patrickulrich

We come from a software background of more than 20 years of experience, and if we know anything about software development, it is in the importance of proper testing before roll out.

As we mentioned in a prior point above, testing in a project such as Steem requires the involvement of a multitude of components, whereby not only Steemit Inc would perform this action, yet witnesses and the community at large could take part in such activity.

Creating a proper testing platform, proper test cases, automated testing, witness and community involvement would all be keys aspects to the success of such major code changes.

Do you think 20/21 top witnesses a good number or should there be more or less? - @harvhat

This was answered above in a prior question.

A kind reminder to all actifitters: some versions of esteem app still cause issues when used to edit your reports, via removing essential info Actifit uses to identify proper reports. This prevents related reports from receiving rewards.
Until this issue is officially fixed via the esteem team, we advise that you use other Steem interfaces for editing, including our own actifit.io, steemit, busy or others.

Delegation Status

Actifit continues to receive amazing delegations and support by more members of our community.
Below is the recent list:
@bluengel(312 SP)
@booster916(201 SP)
@travelling-two(375 SP)
@foodishcorner(50 SP)
@actifit-peter(600 SP)
@kokadi(120 SP)
@gregory-f(100 SP)
@crypt-skip(100 SP)

Accordingly, @actifit account is now at 232,453 SP

Thank you to all delegators for the wonderful support! To see the list of all our delegators, check out actifit.io/delegators

The amount of delegated SP has a large influence over not only the daily/weekly delegation reward, but also on the amount of rewards the actifitter receives on daily reports, as it constitutes a key element in User Rank.

Which is why being an Actifit delegator now has more influence on your rewards, coupled with number of AFIT tokens and other factors highlighted before.

Add to that, and a key important item that will benefit Actifit by receiving more delegation, is the ability to claim and create more user accounts. At the moment, Actifit is claiming around 10 account spots per day. Although this is a good start, yet the number is still small compared to the potential that Actifit has to bring in masses. Simply another reason to delegate to Actifit!

Delegators share a max cap of 100K AFIT tokens according to their delegation amount, and also earn a 5% beneficiary reward from actifit posts' beneficiary earnings.

Since many ask, here we describe again an easy way to calculate your AFIT tokens for a full day of delegations:
(Your Delegated SP) * 100,000 AFIT MAX / (Actifit Account Delegated SP - without account own SP and any delegators who opted out).
So for instance if you had delegated 100 SP, your daily earnings would be around:
100 * 100,000 / 223,000 = 44.44 AFITs

We are appreciative of more delegations to be able to better award actifitters and support our project, so thank you for doing that !

When you are looking to increase your delegation, you need to use the new total amount as the delegation amount, and not only the increased amount. Otherwise only the new amount will be used, and the remaining amount will be undelegated.

To delegate, you can use any of the following links:
10SP, 20SP, 30SP, 50SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1,000SP, 5,000SP, 10,000SP, 20,000SP, Custom Amount
Make sure you have at least 15 SP left on your account.

If you believe in Actifit, please consider voting for Actifit as witness

Another great information! I agree with most of your responses as they are almost what I would answer if those questions were directed to me.

Regarding the bid bots, I think there is no perfect way to manage it because It's a collaborative business. Investors must get their shares at due periods. The owner as well would also like to be at the profit side. If quality were to prioritize; it could have become what you and I really want.

Congratulations to all top actifitters, and the winner of double up reward.

Thank you!

I think the interest on SBD question was referring to that once upon a time, you could put SBD into "savings" and actually earn interest on it, like a savings account. It was somewhat locking it down like turning liquid Steem into Steem Power, but for a shorter duration (I think it takes three days to withdraw from savings), but with the added incentive of interest earning.

oh, yea that sounds like another possible way to interpret it

Great answers. And thanks for letting us know about the existence of the questions 😊

My vote for you as a witness is even firmer now!

I might have few more questions to elaborate on some of your answers.
