My Actifit Report Card: March 26 2019steemCreated with Sketch.

Well, I tried a thing tonight.

Granted, 7 degrees Celsius isn’t that cold, but still, it’s not what I typically consider shorts and T-shirt weather, especially not at night and with a chilly breeze. Just the same, after listening to some of Scott Carney’s adventures with Wim Hof in the book What Doesn’t Kill Us, I decided to try running a little exposed tonight.

At first my skin felt a little chilly, but after a mile I was able to take my shirt off, and by the end of my run, two miles later, I felt completely adjusted to the cold. I even found that putting my shirt back on provided too much warmth and that my skin felt uncomfortable as a result.

I don’t foresee myself making a habit of this, but I figured I might as well give it a try. Maybe next year, if we get some snow, I’ll sneak out of the house in my underwear when nobody’s looking and try lying in the snow. 😬

I’m definitely at the point where I could jump in the snow yet. Interestingly enough, though, it’s a tradition to throw newlyweds in the snow in a town about an hour and a half from where I live.

Maybe next winter I’ll be up for it. If I am, I’ll definitely share the experience.

Wow! thats a very interesting tradition 😯

I'll tell you what..if you do it please do tag me..I'd be very interested in to learn of your experience and may even be so inspired to hop into the snow in a bikini. If I do..I'll even make a video for proof and share it on dtube 👍👌😉

🔥🔥🔥🙌🔥🔥🔥

Much Love!

That’d be a good one, almost a variation of the ice bucket challenge. I’ll write a note in my journal in the December pages. That way I’ll remember.

👍🙌💪💥💯☺ Right on 🙏

I read something about that Wim Hof, or maybe watched a video. Made me cold, lol. I hate the cold, don't know if I could take it or not. But guess you don't know unless you try. They do some of those Polar Bear dips around here too. Never really felt the urge to join in though. Doing water aerobics in the outdoor community pool in the spring before the pool gets warm is about as much I can take, lol.

I’ve done a polar bear swim before. Only once. Surprisingly enough, getting in the water was the easy part. The air was much colder, so even though the water was only like 35 or 40 degrees, it felt warm in comparison.

The idea behind cold therapy is that you have muscles covering all the veins and arteries of your cardiovascular system (thousands of miles of tubes) which contract when you get cold and relax when you get hot. Since we pretty much live in a climate controlled world these days, these muscles rarely get the exercise they need. As a result, cold becomes painful. Just like you adjust to exercise, you can acclimate yourself to the cold too.

Additionally, cold exposure leads to the development of brown fat, which your body can use to generate heat and warm you in cold conditions. The biology of it all is pretty fascinating.
