Just before Christmas, I told my son he could use part of the basement for a home machine shop. Little did I know how what was required to get the unfinished side of the basement. I knew I would have to rearrange some stuff, but I never imagined I would have to move everything in the finished side. Everything need to be placed against the wall and plywood need to be placed on the carpet.
Thankful, I was at a Debate tournament when it was moved into the basement. The milling machine, the big gray thing, weighs 1600 pounds. The rigging crew had to lower down about 5 steps!
Today I spent time taking up some of the makeshift plywood floor and vacuuming the rug. It didn't give that many steps, but it was a was a work out. I hope to have my family room back in the next week or so. Hopefully, my son will finish clean up the machinery and have it reassembled by then.
When he finishes assembling the machine won't he operate the thing from the basement? He did say he was using the basement for a home machine shop. In my limited vocabulary I would take that to mean he intends to make the basement as the machine shop. Hope I am wrong : )

He intends to make things when the milling machine is up and running. He has a small CNC lathe and is refurbishing an industrial manual lathe. Today I called him at work to tell him he needs to help me make a plate for my hot tub control panel. He relied if the milling machine was up and running he could make it on that.
