Actifit Test Post

I was pretty stoked when @lyndsaybowes posted about #actifit today. I mean, what perfect timing!

The trio and I were going to take the dogs out for a walk anyway so I decided to download the app and give it a try.

It doesn't work. 👎

Leaving my house was over 30 steps. Going all the way to the end of our alley brought us to a total of just over 100 steps.

So far so good. So we walk down to Lincoln Park and hit the Miller Creek Hiking Trails for 45 minutes. We went further into this track of the woods than we ever have before, taking trails we have never encountered before.

I decided it was time to turn around and checked the #actifit tracker. In all that time, we only made 509 steps. INCLUDING the over 100 steps before we even got to the park.

Well, clearly it isn't working. But, it's Beta Version so, hopefully it gets fixed.

What really kills me about it is that we took the EXACT SAME PATH home as we took heading out. It only clocked us at 623 steps.

509 to get out there... 114 to get all the way back? Riiiiight...

So I get home, get the kids off to get themselves ready for bed and start writing but I could not post because it had not met the requirements for the minimum of 1,000 steps.

I met the 1,000 step requirement in SECONDS by rocking the phone back and forth maybe 20 times.

I'm really super sore from the hike, but once I am feeling up to it again I will get a different app. I want to know how far we actually went.

Love to you! Hopefully they fix it!

@hickorymack tracked today a total of 1022 steps via Actifit Fitness Tracker

Thank you for the review! I just recently got a (free! Woohoo, I haven't had one in years) smart phone, and the first app I downloaded was ResQWalk, which track your distance and raises money for animal shelters (I walk for Best Friends). I was wondering if I could upload the data from that to the Actifit, rather than having two tracker apps going at the same time.

hey @phoenixwren,
Congrats on the phone!
You could have both apps running at the same time, it shouldn't cause you troubles I believe.
Unfortunately at the moment we can only grab data using our app, and the base reason is to prevent abuse.
Hopefully in the future we can come up with better ways and/or integrate with other tools/APIs.

GTK, thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for giving our Actifit app a try and for the review !

While we did employ some of the best approaches to tracking steps, we are relying on phone sensors to gather raw information and store it, none would guarantee accuracy but our testing gave some relatively accurate and good measurable numbers :)

We would love to get more details from you such as your phone software version to see how we can improve. Yes this is a very early beta and there is always lots of room for improvement, hopefully with such great feedback such as yours!
You can also join our discord and chat to us there and provide more details!

Thanks again @hickorymack !

I was wondering about that because even people using trackers like FitBit in the walking/running group I'm in on FB talk about how xyz model is more accurate on their ankle than their wrist, or whatever the case may be.

I installed it also last evening, but didn't feel like putting my private posting keys in it so I uninstalled it. I was curious though to see some reviews about it. In the past I used Samsung Health that was pre-installed on my smartphone. Worked pretty well and has also a heart rate monitor.

hey @acesontop,
Thank you for the feedback!
We are not storing your private posting key anywhere online. It only gets stored privately on your own phone to ease up your posting. Our project is open source and we made sure that is the case to make sure everyone can check (or at least devs can confirm that :) )
And we only requested the private posting key as it is only required to create a post and upvote. It wouldn't allow any access to your funds and/or wallet.
We would love for you to give it a shot again, and looking forward to your posts/feedback :)

I will. Thanks for explaining me how it works.
