My Actifit Report Card: September 5 2019

I have received an answer from Lithuanian Post about my complain for an unusually high tax I have to pay for 4 CD's that @contrabourdon has sent me from Australia (22 EUR Value Added Tax (VAT) + 8.69 Mediation Tax). Total Over 30 EUR.

The CD's cost 100 AUD, that's 61 AUD. From 61 EUR 21% VAT should be 12.81 EUR. Even if they are including shipping costs (which is nonsense) - they were 33 AUD. So that's 133 AUD or no more than 82 EUR. From 82 EUR VAT should be 17.22 EUR. I don't agree with the 22 EUR VAT.

This is what they wrote back:

Good afternoon,

We'd like to inform you that taxes are calculated by customs officers based on VAT customs tax calculator:

1. Product value + shipping cost + 8.69 EUR mediation tax x 21% VAT = intermediate sum.

1. Intermediate sum + 8.69 EUR mediation tax = payable sum.

I wrote to them one more time asking to clarify why mediation tax 8.69 is payable twice? They replied:

Mediation tax is payable only once but it is included into the VAT: product's value, postal mediation with the customs tax (8.69 EUR), shipping cost and other expenses.

Does it make sense to you?

It doesn't to me.
