Creative Sewing Workshop and Northern Soul: October 3 2018

in actifit •  6 years ago  (edited)

Went to my new creative sewing workshop today - lovely teacher, lovely classmates. It's in a brand new building with IT rooms, dance studio, art room, textile room, kitchen adapted for wheelchair users (work surfaces, hobs and sink can be raised or lowered), little seating area with help yourself tea and coffee. Everything was so spick and span.

Of course, we were asked what projects we wanted to do. I'd watched this northern soul video yesterday and I really liked the wide trousers. Them, I said, that's what I want to make. I wonder if there will be a northern soul night at steemfest?

Your creative sewing class takes place in really interesting atmosphere. And I look forward to see your update about the trousers. Guerrilla northern soul night at SteemFest might be cool. I don't know it well and totally not good at dancing though ;)

I had chance to participate in #gettoknowmechallenge recently and nominated you.

You are an interesting needleworker/gardener with a lot of Steemit related knowledge. I would like to read about you before I meet you at SteemFest.

But no stress, it may take time and effort to write this kind of posts :)

Oh exciting! Thank you for the nomination, let me see what I can do 😍

Thank you shanibeer for thinking about participating it. Initially I worried a bit that my nomination annoy you. I look forward to reading it!

If theres a Northern Soul night at Steemfest and I get to see a video of you strutting your stuff to the Tams or Tobi Legend or someone then I will hand embroider a sampler for you in commemeration!

Haha I was tempted to say, "hold my beer" but then I thought that someone might be listening 😎.

That creative sewing workshop sounds great, @shanibeer. How many sessions will there be ?
The video reminded me of 'Mercy', by Duffy

It does look good - only six in the class at the moment (and only six machines, so that's works). I was surprised that it wasn't more popular given the interest in recycling/upcycling. I might suggest a poster and some flyers in the sewing shops around the county.
It's twelve weeks before christmas, and then ten after christmas and after easter. I should have finished my trousers by then 😎.
Yeh, I like this Duffy song - I think she was quite popular on the northern soul circuit. I bought this album, too!

Nice trousers - and nice music. I only know of Northern Soul via Marc Almond who is a big fan of it and did some medleys of that. Looking forward to seeing what you make :)

I love Marc Almond, he used to be cloakroom attendant and the DJ at my favourite club in Leeds a couple of years earlier than my time there though sadly.

From the old Soft Cell songs it's "What", or from his Mambas-time like "In my room". But my favorite album is "The Art of Falling Apart"

I don't know much about him (other than great voice). What would you recommend to listen to?

  • "The Stars we are" - truly Marc Almond but more accessible than other albums.
  • Interesting is "Jacques" - kind of his torch version of the famous french chansons by Jacques Brel, in a way a soundtrack for autumn. My favourite there: "If you go away", it's a pre-heartbreak song if such a thing exists.
  • "Northern Lights", the new album of Soft Cell - kind of a back to the roots thing but I'm not that fond of it. Perhaps it's just the "something new from an artist where we love the old stuff"-thing.

He got an OBE last New Year - who would have thought of that 40 years ago when he started to sing ;)

These sound interesting ... an OBE ... blimey

My favourite single is Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, but for the album, try YT for Tenement Symphony, its not for everyone but I like the contrasts and his voice is just so different.
Forget the Russian period unless you particularly have a penchent for Russian folk music and poetry :-)

I think I have that song on a Jools Holland cd, now you mention it. I had forgotten 😊

It was funny, we had an hour (after all the introductions) to make something small, I decided to go for a case for my dressmaking shears. An hour isn't long enough and I was racing against time! I have a machine at home, but I'm not sure it even still works 🙈🙉🙊
