Bedford parkrun for a new PB

in actifit •  6 years ago

Last night a fellow local runner said he was heading to Bedford today if anyone wanted a lift. I'd only met Graeme briefly before, but took up his offer. We were there in plenty of time and a big crowd started gathering. We did a gentle half lap to warm up.

Crowd

I got caught up in the crowd at the start, so it took me a while to get going properly. The course is nearly 3 laps of the park with a bit of a climb at one end. It all felt like hard work, but I kept going. As the finish came into sight I attempted a bit of a sprint that took me past a few people, but then 3 guys came back past me in the last few metres. There were over 400 finishers of all ages. There were quite a few pre-teens running with parents.

Unfortunately I managed to forget the barcode you need to have your time recorded, but Endomondo reckons it was a new personal best. I'm definitely getting closer to my target of 25 minutes for 5km.

Run

Graeme was over a minute quicker than me. He has done 77 parkruns in various locations. That was my 16th and I hope to do a lot more this year. I believe I can improve on my current running.

Cheers. It doesn't get easier, but I do seem to get quicker.

Congratulations!

Absolutely perfect weather for it today.

I would have a melt down if I forgot my bar code - I keep spares in every bag and jacket pocket.

I learnt today that those 50 and 100 shirts are technicals - I'd just thought they were crappy normal Ts.

Urges me to switch it up to once a week, I now want one of those shirts!

I need to spread some spare barcodes around. It's not the end of the world.

You really should.

I printed off 30 copies, but that's more to do with my relying on a hand me down printer (dinosaur) from work and not trusting it to last too much longer.

I should buy a wrist band - they're only about £5.

I'll make up some more. Wristbands here are a little expensive. I may do a mini one to fit in my arm pouch and maybe something for a keyring.

Aren't the WB's done centrally?

Park Runs are firmly on my 'things I like' list - I'm gonna volunteer on some of them.

Had a minutes silence for a local regular/ running coach who died last week.

No idea who he was but it was most appropriate!

I ought to volunteer. I'm hoping my kids can come along some time too. Maybe I'd get to know some of the team better that way.

Every day is a good day when you run.
