I tag almost all of my actifit posts "martial arts," since it is nearly always true. Today it's a bit of a stretch, as most of my step count comes from cleaning the dojo.
I am grateful today for a community who steps up and helps one another, and for being on the receiving end of help several times: for assistants who are willing and able to lead my classes when I'm sick, and for friends and dojo team mates who show up at the end of the day to clean, when I least expected it.
Community is the reason why I am so devoted to this martial art. I love the physical training, but it's the people who inspire me to continue this path as I have for 14 years now.
Steem is a bit like that, too.

This is a really cool looking dojo. It's certainly well maintained by your martial arts community!
I was trained in some martial arts, and I loved it.
It definitely brings people together in my opinion.
The form I was trained in was military specific, and didn't feel completely authentic to me, but it still brought us together more. It was called MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program), and it's a very effective mixed martial art, on the basis of Judo. I'm sure it's changed some over the years, or maybe not idk, but I still remember some of it, and times I've needed it, it just came out like muscle memory, things I had "thought" I forgot.. Pretty wild.
Keep up the great work friend :)

Thank you for saying so! Keeping the dojo maintained has become one of my favorite parts of being involved in a martial art. At home, cleaning feels like a chore, but in the dojo everyone chips in and it is both a meditative routine after the workout and a social experience.
I've practiced with someone who did MCMAP before. How authentic something is I think depends on how sincerely and intently everyone trains. Ours is a traditional dojo, so there is protocol around training and cleaning and how you greet your teachers and training partners. I feel like a lot of that is for putting everyone in the right mindset to train responsibly, and in that I imagine it has something in common with military training.
Except we are all civilians who come and go as we please, so it's certainly possible to train casually - dedication to the dojo community seems to build over time.
That's good and not surprising your like memory just knew what to do when you needed it. I've had a couple occasions to use actual technique (nothing too dramatic), but moreover the training has affected how I stand and move, and how I interact with people.

A bunch of 18 year old's on Paris Island, South Carolina in high humid heat with fire ants and sand fleas biting the shit out of us, performing rigorous repetition training, mixed with body hardening, (generally a fun nerve smashing routine) wasn't exactly a perfect definition of fun, but once we started becoming proficient we certainly had some fun. 😅
The training was very vigorous, exhausting, and pretty much all day long, but this brings on a sense of unity among people as well. When you have a group of people experiencing something that is this taxing, and choice has been signed off on, you definitely find a sense of unity with your friends who are in the same situation.
The dynamics are a bit different here. People who are training with you absolutely want to be there, and have a choice in the matter. So I can see how it would be passion driven, and close relationships formed. Sounds really awesome!
Amazing! Very transformative.
My training also had this effect on me! It's not uncommon for Marines to be able to spot another, just by the way we carry ourselves. We're talking a very small percentage of citizens too, that must say something. 😎
