Gaylord Nelson, Oil Spill, and Earth Day History
Earth Day became a channel of energy from the antiwar movement by putting worries about the environment on the front lines.

By preserving the Earth, we participate in passing on life and good environment for future generations.
Every year, on April 22, we commemorate a day that is also commemorated by all mankind in the world, Earth Day which marks a new page in the modern environmental movement.
Until now more and more parties and voices are loudly demanding all of us to care more about thehouse where we take refuge. Various media also showcase the efforts of various parties in safeguarding the earth. Young children to adults also upload material related to Earth day to their digital timeline.
But when asked how a date can be commemorated as a special day for the earth, not everyone is able to answer aloud.
Earth Day began in 1970, the year of Jimi Hendrix's death, the Beatles' last album. As US students increasingly take a stand against the war that raged in Vietnam, and many protests were voiced. But the discourse of saving the planet is not one of them.

The headline of The Gaylord Nelson Newsletter illustrates the beginning of the struggle of various parties in protecting the environment and the Earth.
In the year with many great events, an idea to save the Earth from an ecological crisis also emerged from a US Senator from Wisconsin, Gaylord Anton Nelson.
The idea that grew larger for almost 50 years began when Nelson watched an oil spill on the coast of Santa Barbara, California in 1969.
Although the oil spill was a strong point for Nelson to make a big move, it was not this event that made Nelson care about the environment.
Already in the 1960s Nelson has been concerned and campaigning on environmental issues, which he has long lost from the state agenda. Nelson reformed a number of things in Wisconsin, such as hygiene regulation of waterways lines, protection of natural resources, and creating environmentally friendly jobs.
For his various efforts, Nelson is dubbed the Conservation Governor.
In the early days of Earth Day began to be initiated, Nelson still focused on environmental issues that disturb the preservation of the planet and the impact on human health.
In short, Earth Day 1970 brought a kind of awareness. And Earth Day is also a channel of energy from the antiwar movement by putting worries about the environment on the front lines.
The Earth Day event was followed by 20 million Americans, and the number continues to grow over time.
Two decades later, in 1990, Earth Day participants reached 200 million people from 141 countries. Today, billions of people from 190 countries participate in Earth Day actions. More than 5,000 environmental organizations worldwide support the movement.
Amy Cassara of the World Resources Institute Washington - who tries to analyze global trends about the environment - has noted that since the first Earth Day, the environmental movement has evolved. Originally a side subject; into a strong mainstream stream, which is considered important by most people.
Although the movement is getting bigger andvisible, but the majority of mankind still keeps choosing to turn a blind eye and keep doing a lot of things that also damage the environment. Hopefully with the efforts and persistence of environmental fighters, all humanity can melt and become concerned about this increasingly aging planet.

What a great article and so very timely.
I didn't even realize that it dates from 1970. I'd have guessed a couple of years later. In '70 I was in the middle of the anti-war swirl. Probably why I wasn't paying attention to the Earth. I was concerned about my own sorry butt....
Thanks for a wonderful article.

Fabulous post!
Interesting that Earth day came out of the anti war movement, makes sense.
Earth day reminds me of George Washington's statement - “Make the most of the Indian hemp seed, . . . and sow it everywhere!”
