Kidulthood.

in adulthood •  5 years ago  (edited)

Most of us grew up watching cartoons on TV. For the boys, probably some cartoon network, some Simpsons, Powerpuff girls, Dexter, Flintstones etc. Girls had their fair share too, what with Sailor moon, power puff girls, The Little Mermaid etc.

Now i'm not going to go all out and say that watching cartoons is a bad thing. As children, we're naturally attracted to colourful cute caricatures of animals who walk like humans, talk like humans, move around like they're defying the laws of physics. It's great for stimulating the young and developing mind.

The problem really lies in people never getting out of their infant ways well into their adulthood. The obsession with watching cartoons, playing games, reading comic books, and STILL watching only superhero movies like they're the best thing since sliced bread.

What's happening here?

Simple, an entire generation of millennials and even some Gen Xers have chosen to freeze their brains in a state of permanent adolescence. I would go as far as saying that some have even regressed back to their childhoods because of their sheer terror at the prospect of adulthood. Yes, life is harsh and reality isn't what most of us expected, but being a child your whole life is -not- the answer.

Why do you think we get reboots of super hero movies every decade? And why do you think they remain so popular? It is because the culture in general is mired in a state of insipid stagnation. The continuing popularity of these movies suggest some kind of deliberate self-imposed state of emotional arrest combined with a numbing condition of cultural stasis that can be witnessed in popular music, comics, movies and of course, across the whole cultural spectrum.

We've all been socially engineered to overshare to become emotionally incontinent, to the point we can barely handle reality.

It gets worse..

Millennials are so innately infantile that they had to invent a word to remind them how to behave like adults!

Imagine that.. inventing words to make normal adult behaviour sound like some kind of astounding achievement just to make yourself feel special.

Is it surprising then, that these perpetual juveniles who never want to grow up and embrace adulthood have contributed to a 30 year low in birth rates?

Let's pass the blame.. cause that's what kidults do

Of course, the real reason millennials appear to be constantly trying to flee to the safety of their childhood is because boomers ruined the economy by causing massive property inflation and stagnating wages, stunting their development into adulthood.
