On Big 5 Game Safari with Ned

in adventure •  8 years ago

I have been in business for many years and have realised that you can only create so many business plans, have so many great ideas, and influence the world and business so much. One key thing that is needed in business is also a little bit of luck :)

If we can use the few short days with Ned as an indication of his luck, I can tell you that we have a great chance of success with Steemit. Those who has been on a big 5 game safari knows, that there is luck involved in seeing them all. I cannot remember a trip where I saw the big 5 on one trip before and I have been on many Game Drives in my life.

Traveling to the Game Farm

We left Johannesburg early Sunday morning for the North West Province. It is not a too long drive, around 90 minutes and you are in the heart of the bushveld ... one of my favorite places on earth :)

We stopped to have lunch on top of the Magaliesberg and had an incredible view of Hartbeespoortdam (or Harties as the locals refers to it). I want to apologies upfront for the quality of the images. I took it with my Iphone and I am not a specialist photographer.

We arrived at Kwa Maritiane later the afternoon, but still in time to do a short drive with our private vehicles. This was the start of Ned's "Beginners Luck"

We were not even a kilometre into the game reserve and we saw elephant about 40 metres from us. A few minutes later we saw Rhino.

During our short drive we saw all the usual suspects, Kudu, Impala, Zebra, Wildebeest and the like.

The actual game drive.

We were up early the next morning to join the game rangers for the Big 5 game Safari. I highly recommend joining these safaris when you ever have the chance. The game rangers are in radio contact and notifies each other when the sight rare animals.

The trip was very exciting. We had our first encounter with a Pride of Lions within 30 minutes of the trip.

And then it happened … the lions spotted a warthog

The pride started to work together to bring home some bacon for breakfast :)

This one was a bit close for comfort

One of the females right in front of our vehicle went into stealth mode ready for attack. It was just an amazing sight. I am not sure if I must say fortunately or unfortunately but something spooked the warthog which ran away before the attack began.

Then I heard Ned shouting Run Pumba, Run!

It was truly an amazing experience.

The we saw a leopard. They are so well camouflaged that you rarely see them in the wild. I have only seen leopard in the wild three times before in my life.

All and all a wonderful experience. Usually buffalo is the first of the Big 5 to be seen on a trip like this. We saw Rhino, Elephant, Lion, and Leopard but unfortunately we were not lucky enough to see Buffalo

My invite is open to anybody visiting South Africa. When I am not able to personally join you on the trip, I will definitely be able to advise where to go and where to stay within reasonable budgets. Just contact me via Steemit Chat and we can make arrangements.

Happy Steeming

Little bit scary but woderfull views, well done @jacor!

For me the most scary parts is normally the Elephants. Especially when they start waving and shaking their ears (Warning Sign). This can be very scary as they usually attack soon after.

This is an experience I wish for everyone to have even just once in your life.
I'm so lucky to have grown up in this country and to have parents who shared this with us from an early age. Now I get to share the same with my children.
If you didn't spot them, look closely, there are lions in the 7th photo.

Interesting

Great post! I followed you.

Thank you @michaelstobiersk.

This looks amazing...wish I joined you guys 😭

We will do it again @mokluc :)

How absolutely lucky you were. I am an environmental and tourism writer and not on all my visits to parks around South Africa and further afield have I managed to see all the big ones in a single day. But whatever it is you get to see, it is always special.

100% agree @lmar it is indeed always special. Great to have writers like yourself on the platform. For those who are not yet following @lmar, please do.

What a great adventure. It looks so warm over there. My side is so cold and muddy. Ha!

@rissakoirtyohann are now entering our summer season. Not that our winters are too bad at all. We are blessed with good weather all year :)

Amazing stuff!

BTW, i really imagined @gavvet differently lol

It is amazing when you actually meet the person on the other side of their digital identity. I have experienced this a few times now :)

Absolutely agree! I have done so few times too by now, it really is a blast of a thing

hope to join you guys in next one ;)

Always welcome

Great pictures. D-day minus 25 for me :)

@naomi.louise has discussed your visit with me and we would love to arrange for a dinner one evening should you have time available in your diary?

I will free the time. Definitely!

As soon as I will get the exact plans of the people inviting me, i will let you know. In any case, it will be either for the 2nd or for the 3rd as I will leave Johannesburg for Kruger on the 4th.

Great, I will keep both evenings of the 2nd and the 3rd open for possible dinner.

Brilliant post. I have done countless safaris and everyone has been different but so enjoyable

Exactly, it is amazing how every single one are completely different.

Great that you managed to show him the bushveld, this is the very reason we are proud of South Africa! (Your photos are great, nothing wrong with them!)

Thanks Johan :)
