Guess what I got for my Birthday...

in adventure •  7 years ago  (edited)

Just got home from a pretty busy day today.

The National Porsche Club (Porsche Club GB) held their annual Christmas get-together today and I believed Trev was feeling a little guilty because it happened to be held on my birthday and I was OK with us going down there for a day out. Plus Trev has been apologising all day because 'the thing' he'd ordered for my birthday hadn't turned up.

We set out from home for a two hour journey on a miserable morning.

There was a Christmas market and I had a little money from my In-Laws to spend and if we had time, we'd pop in to see his 911SC that's being renovated.

With me so far?

So we went to the Porsche Club GB HQ and said hello to a few people we know. We had a coffee and a walk around the car park - I'm NOT kidding, there had to be 150+ Porsches there today (including Trev's Cayenne Turbo) - WHAT a turn-out!

Then, we strolled over to Rennsport where the 911SC is undergoing a bit of TLC.

Trev has been hanging his nose over a new car just lately (it's his turn, I had the Mustang last year) - hence the BMW and Maserati visits (with more to come) so I did think that's the real reason we went out to look at Porsches.

We had a word with Paul, the guy Trev's been talking with about the renovation, and then we went down to the factory to take a look at how the work is going.

Rennsport are the guys that make the 'Retro' Rennsport 911RS and they do a cracking job!

So, I followed Trev onto the factory floor...

"Happy Birthday, Wife," he said.

I don't take delivery until next year, but I now own a classic, 1978 Porsche 911SC

Yes of course, we're married and it goes without saying what's his is mine and what's mine is also mine, but it's certainly the thought that counts.

I'm exceptionally lucky and extremely happy.

WHAT???

You just got a Porsche????

AWESOME!

Well, we already had the Porsche - it has been in 'storage' for 25 years since we couldn't afford to have it serviced and maintained etc.

Now we're in a better place, financially (the kids left home joke) and we can afford a few things, we're making the most of it all.

But yeah... it's really awesome! Thank you :)

WOW!

In a way thats even cooler! How exciting. Congrats and have FUN with it!

Thank you! We sure will :)

Have you taken it for a nice drive yet???

I drove it when I was 23 but I don't take delivery until early next year (estimated April).

We drove more than 1000 miles in a week the first week we had it - not bad to say we both worked full-time then.

Oh the memories!

Happy Birthday ❤️!! You re Lucky for having a great man that loves you and he is lucky for having you !!

Thank you!

Yeah, I think we both know how lucky we are - and we tell each other (probably one of the major reasons we're both happy).

Happy Birthday!

Thank you :)

Happy Birthday!

The Yellow foglights are awesome. Keep the plates.

That's not my car, that was one the company is restoring. It just looked interesting :)

Ooft, happy birthday indeed! :0D

Thank you! :)

@michelle.gent Happy Birthday
very interesting
I'm sure you get a good car
send regards for success

Thank you :)

Oh wow! I... I am going to be proud of our tiny Toyota.

I had a Toyota! I kept it for 14 years, I loved that car. We had to sell it to make room for the 'Stang.

I walk a lot. :P

You are very lucky and can get anything you want, because your financial ability is very supportive for it,
But I think the most special thing is when you get my Happy Birthday from me .....
Yaaa .... from the depths of my deepest heart say HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE.GENT, hopefully long life and always blessed

Thank you. Yes, I am really lucky :)

Haha! Thank you!

Wow.. very nice surprise from your husband. Happy birthday. Wish you all the best

Yes, it really was a nice surprise. Thank you.

Wow, jealous! Nothing like the classics!

Thank you!

We've owned the car for 30 years and it's been in one garage or another for most of that time. The renovations are being done in time for the car's 40th anniversary.

I just didn't think I'd be getting my hands on the ownership papers! :)

Wow, even cooler!

Yeah! I'm still grinning like a loon!

Happy birthday Michelle. And what a present. Hope to see you soon when I'm back in dear old blighty...(currently being robbed blind in Iceland)

Ouch!

Thank you, it was an awesome day and a stunning gift!

Happy birthday, Michelle! That's quite the present!

Thank you! His pride and joy? You bet! :)

The body style of old carreras is incomparable. Truly a gorgeous car, you're one lucky individual!

The car is certainly one of the most recognisable :)

I really am lucky, yes!

My car is the 911SC not the Carrera (unfortunately... although, if it was, I doubt I'd have been gifted it) LOL

Happy birthday, you can take me for a spin next year ;) was gonna say hope @s0u1 spoiled u but looks like he has

Absolutely! Should be around April! That ok for you? ;)

He tries to spoil me for every anniversary and he always teases me by telling me he's got me something way before my birthday... this year he claimed he couldn't find anything... now I know why!

Amazing!!! The classic Porsches are gorgeous, you must be one happy lady!

And Happy Birthday :)

I'm delighted! Thank you and thank you :D

wonderful, enjoy the moment... so glad you were surprised.

Happy Birthday from Steemit !!

Thank you!

Yes, I was certainly surprised!

Thank you again :)

Happy birthday @michelle.gent, congrats on the birthday gift, your man has an eye for beauty!

Thank you!

He knows what he likes in the car department, that's for sure... although I do wish he'd bought the Ferrari Dino he had chance to buy at £10k - hindsight = 20/20 vision :)

Haha, well maybe that is for next Christmas!

Hahaha! I think that may be a bridge too far for the moment.

£400,000 to £500,000 for a decent one would need more than a one year savings plan, I think.

Well you just got to work harder on Santa (Trev) in 2018 and show him that your a Nice Naughty Girl. ;)

I'll give it the old college try!

To be honest, I'd rather have an isolated farmhouse to live in... but there's the possibility for both I suppose 😉

Wow. Nice.

IKR? :)

Happy birthday! Enjoy an awesome day because everyone deserves that special treatment that special day. I almost went green with envy but I realised I am green :)

LOL Thank you - stay green :)

Wow, nice car! Happy Birthday indeed! :) xox

Thank you! I'm still wondering if it's real...

Very lucky @michelle.gent, we have a 1979 930 Turbo at home and I can tell you, you are going to be one super happy Porsche owner! Just make sure you look after it.

Thank you!
I really am!

I think I'll leave the 'looking after it' part to Trev.

When we first bought the car, he set aside money every month to pay for the upkeep. I think I'll suggest he re-start that fund so we can keep the service history up.

We bought the car when I was 23, but had to store it (hoping we'd get around to getting it back on the road soon).

Still, it's exciting!

That is super exciting, best of luck with getting it back on the road. Oh and Happy Birthday for the other day!

Thank you x 2 :)

I'll keep you informed on the progress! :)

Happy Birthday Michelle and congrats! Driving this car must be so fun!

Thank you! It was fun way back in the 'olden days' and I'm pretty sure it's going to be just as much fun when we get it back :)

Now that's the kind of present that you won't need the return receipt for. Congrats.

Haha! That's right... but even though we first bought it in 1988, I believe Trev still has the receipt ;)

Happy Belated Birthday! You are going to need a bigger garage! lol What a lovely birthday surprise! Photos when you take delivery please!

Thank you!

Yes, a bigger garage would come in useful - and that's exactly what Trev would really like. Maybe one day we'll sell up and buy that tiny cottage in the country - with all the out-buildings he needs ;)

That's a beautiful dream to work towards!

Yep! More 'outside' than 'inside' = less housework - what's not to like? ;)

A man is trying for you! Love it! I wish your feelings prosperity!

Yeah, he sometimes knows what a woman wants ;) hahaha!

niceee hope you had a lovely birthday!!!

I did thank you <3

Lucky You , can you teach me how to be like you? to be rich? and get everything you got? how can i do that?

Oh yes, I can teach you how to be this lucky.

All you have to do is start work at 13 years old, go out before school and after school to that job.

Then, when you leave school, you need to find a job - any job will do, as long as there is plenty of opportunity to do lots overtime and earn more money. Work hard, get kicked in the teeth and taken advantage of for around 10 years or so, then start your own business.

Using nothing but your personal luck and imagination, no hard work at all, hardly... you spend 16 hours a day (sometimes more), seven days a week, building your business and filling the orders you've been lucky enough to have drop in your lap after making phonecall after phonecall trying to get people to have faith in your product and give a new business a chance.

Then, in between raising children and keeping a marriage alive, you may be lucky enough to get another job working at night so you never get to say goodnight to your kids and you're too tired to appreciate them in the morning.

After all that luck, you may even get a job where you can work only 2 hours mandatory overtime, plus ONLY one day of the weekend, one where you can actually use the 15 minute breaktimes and 30 minute lunchtimes to write your novel.

When you have to leave that job because of a spine injury and find other work, you may then be lucky enough to get work as something else, perhaps at an agency?

Then, after around 40 years, if you're really lucky, you can buy your own car.

may be you get one car...am i right?m

Nice attempt to clean the steemit. But aren't you demanding too much? :)

I don't take delivery until next year, but I now own a classic, 1978 Porsche 911SC

Yes, I got a new car - that's an old car :)
