Exploring The Deep Sea!! 🐟 Do You Wanna Dive Down With Me?

in adventure β€’Β  7 years agoΒ  (edited)
Land is the secure ground, while the sea's like real life: the outside, the unknown. - Stephen Gardiner

There's a great mystery around the deep sea's life. It fascinates and scares us at the very same time.

We can't breath down there and we can't hardly see anything. It's dark and cold, but still it protects a fascinating secret that attracts us like a magnet.

I've always felt both respect and curiosity for the sea. When I went on a scuba dive for the very first time it was as if we had landed on a different planet. The beauty of the underwater world is absolutely stunning, and once you've witnessed it with your own eyes, you feel attached to it in a special way.

Now if we don't have the time or possibilities to go on a dive by ourselves, then there are other options to explore life at the shore, in the shallows and in the deep sea.

Come with me on a ride into a different world!

@surfermarly visiting Poema del Mar, one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world

Poem of the Sea

Poema del Mar (Spanish: Poem of the Sea) is the name of one of the most impressive aquariums in the world.

Lucky me, it was recently built at the harbour of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands), which means that it's just a stone's throw away from my home.

Before I discovered the Steem blockchain and started to earn money as a blogger, I was employed at the company that owns the aquarium. Now it was really exciting to visit the finished attraction, since I had only seen it on the architect's plans so far.

I can tell you that everything I saw completely exceeded my expectations!

Poema del Mar is definitely one of the most spectacular attractions we have on Canary Islands.

@surfermarly standing in front of the largest tank in the aquarium

It leaves you speechless, and then it converts you into a storyteller

On a total building area of 12,500mΒ² you'll find more than 2,000 species from all over the world, shown in their natural habitat and own eco-system.

The core of the aquarium is surely the exhibition called 'deep sea' (see picture above). The front window is the largest curved window that has ever been manufactured in the world, a methacrylate of 140 tons of weight, 36 meters long and 7 meters high.

Now thanks to the curvature, getting closer to the window feels as if you were walking into the tank. Really stunning!

You may wonder how they got it in there?! Check the making-of video on the website to learn more: www.poema-del-mar.com.

I don't lie if I tell you that I was standing two hours in front of the window and still discovered something new.

Meeting one of the sharks...

Being a nature lover automatically converts you into an environmentalist

One of the things I appreciate most about Poema del Mar is the philosophy behind.

After Loro Parque (no. 1 zoological park in the world*) and Siam Park (no. 1 waterpark in the world*), Poema del Mar is the third attraction of the same group that fulfills both the requirements for a first class tourist attraction and an environmentally sustainable project.

As a surfer I really know how important it is to take care of our environment.

As a part of its commitment to the environment, Poema del Mar will also firmly commit to renewable and non-polluting energies contributing to the development of sustainable tourism in Gran Canaria and because of that the facilities are equipped with the most modern filtering, purification and desalination water systems around the world. - Blog Poema del Mar

On your tour through the aquarium you'll be constantly reminded of the importance of environmental protection, not only with regards to renewable energy but also in matters of conservation.

The group's own foundation Loro Parque FundaciΓ³n, an organization with more than 20 years of experience in the development of research, education and conservation activities throughout the world. During the past 24 years the Foundation has carried out more than 100 conservation projects in 30 countries around the world, and has dedicated more than $17,000,000 USD to the preservation of the most threatened animal species.

If you want to learn more about it, check out their website: www.loroparque-fundacion.org/en.

Being inside this green temple makes you feel pretty alive!

@surfermarly exploring Poema del Mar with her best friend Sandra

It's a natural and sustainable playground for all age groups

The aquarium is divided into three main areas: the jungle, the coral reef and the deep sea.

Like that you're gradually exploring the different natural habitat close to and down inside the sea. It's as if you were blazing a trail through the jungle until you reach the shore of the sea and then dive down deeper.

We spent about four hours inside and could've stayed even longer. If you ever planned to visit the aquarium, you'd better save the whole day for the experience.

No matter if you're a local living on Canary Islands or a tourist coming from abroad, visiting Poema del Mar is a must

No, I don't get paid for this (anymore) :-) As always I just share the very best with you.

Have a great day, steemians!

Much love,
Marly -

'When I went on a scuba dive for the very first time it was as if we had landed on a different planet. ' - This is so true, I remember my first scuba dive as if it was yesterday...quite a special moment in my life really! I've done over a 150 dives now and counting...and I always encourage people to give it a try and conquer their fears (if they have any)!

More than 150 scuba dives? Oh wow! That's impressive. Have you done them all at the coast of NZ?

I perfectly remember my very first dive in Sharm El Sheikh, since I saw one of the most beautiful creatures ever: it was a blue-spotted stingray that was stirring up the sand on the ground, trying to find some food. While he was wavelikely moving himself - like stingrays do - the sunrays dipping from the water's surface illuminated the blue spots on his skin and it seemed as if they were glowing.

The group of divers I was with hadn't seen him and left the place while I was holding on and just watching him. They started to make signs, telling me that I had to follow them, haha. I guess I could've stayed forever just looking at this animal.

From my experience being underwater makes you quite humble.

Noo actually I have barely done any in NZ (too cold? ;p). I started years ago in South Africa. Then I did a few in Europe before really getting into it in the Philippines. I did my Dive Master training on the Gili Islands (Indonesia).
I love seeing rays...I can't get enough of them, whether it's stingrays, manta's, etc... So I can totally relate to that feeling. That really sounds like a special moment! It's true though, some dives I would also just prefer to stay in one place and watch an animal for a while instead of swimming around like crazy to try to see as much as possible...
It does make you humble, that's why everyone should try it! :)

This is pretty amazing, living in the Caribbean as dive master I’ve been getting myself involved in some reef conscious projects myself and it’s addicting. Never would hve even know this existed without your post! Thanks for the share! πŸ’™

A diver master from the Caribbean! Now that's pretty cool, following you :-)
Great that you've been involved in sustainable projects by yourself. I think we can't ever do enough to protect our environment. Thumbs up!!
See you around

That place looks so fantastic!

I've been to many aquariums - Shedd in Boston, Birch here in San Diego, Monterey up the coast from here...

And of course, Sea World...

But Poema Del Mar is one I would just love to visit if I ever have a chance!

After the visit, I want to meet up with you and go surfing, OK? ;)

Hugs! ;)

πŸ˜„πŸ˜‡πŸ˜„

@creatr

After the visit, I want to meet up with you and go surfing, OK? ;)

Are you kidding? I mean: is this a serious question? :-))) Of course, we'd be meeting then!

I've been to SeaWorld, too. And when I was working for the company I mentioned I had to organize a world trip for my boss. He visited almost 30 aquariums in 20 days - a true world record I guess :-) So I did a lot of research in that context and like that learned a lot about these attractions. There are definitely a lot of them I'd love to visit in person one day.

Days need to have 48 hours to fulfill all of our dreams, right? :-)

Big hugs @creatr!

"Days need to have 48 hours to fulfill all of our dreams, right? :-)"

They do now, but my faith in Jesus informs me that in the eternal kingdom that's coming, it won't matter... because I will have forever to do everything I've always imagined and hoped.

And so I always want to mention that to my friends, because I want all my friends to be there as well. You're invited, Marly! ;)

Big hugs right back at you... :D

Sounds like a reaaaally good plan! Count me in :-)
Please enjoy your weekend!!!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

You too!

I hope you're back to surfing? Catch me a wave, OK? ;)

This aquarium looks just amazing. Thank you very much for your report. I can feel your excitement :)

One more big reason to visit Gran Canaria.

Are other two parks that you mention in the vicinity?

We intend to visit Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria is practically on the way there ...

Thanks again, muchas grazias :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the read in such way @ervin-lemark !
Great decision to visit Canary Islands. Well here everything is kind of in the vicinity, considering that you can take an airplane and fly from one island to the other in 30-50 minutes :-)

Loro Parque and Siam Park are both located on the isle of Tenerife. If you're not a wind surfer, I'd even say that Tenerife is the more attractive island compared to Fuerteventura, especially if you haven't been to the archipelago yet. But well, you can't do anything wrong visiting one of the seven islands anyways :-)

Muchas gracias a tΓ!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

The interesting matter is that how this deep sea aquariums is made.

You can witness the whole construction process on the aquarium's website - there's a timelaps video :-) (see link in the content)

You have gathered enough experience working with them infact if you could have your own you wont have problem

Haha, to maintain an aquarium like this it needs a bit more than just visiting it :-) But in fact I really enjoyed my time there!

Nice

Thank you for the information!!!

Nice post

The world of fish is very large and very beautiful indeed
What a wonderful shot
Thank you for this wonderful thing

I think aquariums like this were built specifically for people like me who only like to have water in a cup. I really love the sea and would love to get closer to lives in there but just as great is my love is so is my fear for the sea. That brings the saying: I only like water, when it's in a cup.

I'm sure the 'poem of the sea' (Poema del mar), would be a wonderful place to get close to live at sea. I can see the joy radiating from your words. Hope to be there someday.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Beautiful you if you know how to fall in love when you speak of the sea, God bless your passion and your adventurous spirit... Thank you for sharing your love !!
