Hello everybody this is my first time doing this kind of contest but I have to say is a good one, why do you think that? you may ask, the reason is simple: a contest that not only let you talk about the book you are reading and giving an opinion about it but also the why and how the book constituted a part of your day and the journey to the imagination and senses that a book may give no matter where you are going, so let me stop my chit chat about this great idea here and let´s begin with the post:
Stephen King may be the king of blood and galore to many people, in fact he is one of my favorited author not just for the well-constructed characters or the seamless fantastic ideas he develop in every one of his books but also for the ability to make everything an instrument of horror or a lethal instrument, in Cujo it was a dog with rabies and the fear of a mother and his child against an foe who in another day were your average pet, in pet sematary was not only the moral dilemma of it you could revived someone you love, will you do it?, But there is also the element that the person or animal that returns will be changed forever becoming a deranged monster who kill anyone he or she loves in a heartbeat, for that and many other things Stephen King is a fantastic author.
What to say about this book well first let´s see the book description shall we:
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides -- or are chosen.
The Stand (Apocalipsis in Spanish translation) is about: a deadly virus called "Captain Trips", engineered as an advanced biological weapon by the government, is accidentally released across America and the world, causing 99.4% of the entire world's population to die. The 0.6% who survive struggle to find their bearings in the aftermath of the plague. They all dream about two opposing figures: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man, and Mother Abagail, who is receiving visions from God. The survivors split into two factions, one led by Flagg, and one led by Mother Abigail, and prepare for the final stand between good and evil. This book is definitely big it has 1,152 pages and that is because of the great quantity and quality of the characters in this novel but is more how the story develops in distinct parts everyone of it being in different months more accurately in:
Captain Trips (June 16- July 4)
The novel's first part takes place over nineteen days, with the escape and spread of a human-made biological weapon, a superflu virus known formally as "Project Blue" but most commonly as "Captain Trips" (among other colloquialisms). The epidemic leads directly to the death of an estimated 99.4% of the world's human population.
On the Border (July 5 – September 6)
Intertwining cross-country odysseys are undertaken by a small number of survivors and the conformation of the two sides of this epic battle; Randall Flagg in Las Vegas Nevada and mother Abigail in Boulder, Colorado
The Stand (September 7 – January 10)
The last part of the book in which happens the imminent confrontation between the two sides and the end of the novel.
The format that the story is written, the quantity of unique character and the incredible situation their face against and the not so conventional fears presented in this book like: fear of being alone, fear to the unknown, fear of being an outcast in a world where you need people more than ever, fear of choosing the wrong side, fear of god and his wrath but the most important is the fear of having hope and that it can be taken away from you, for that and many other motives I give this book a deserved 10/10
Yeah I know it´s not a place so far away of remotely away to start with but when i feel very stressful or anxious, I like to sit in a comfy chair, put my headphones on and read this amazing book with a gentle breeze and a good cup of coffee in my hand, let my imagination fly away as I read the unique situations and problems that the characters have, totally ignoring the world around me letting the time pass away as I immersed myself more in this amazing novel with so fantastic storytelling letting my problems vanish in thin air, I’ve to say that this is one of my favorites moments of the day.
Well I think that is everything I have to say for this post and I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes of this book:
“The place where you made your stand never mattered. Only that you were there...and still on your feet.”
Thank for reading all of you and @therovingreader for making this awesome contest, good luck everybody!
I'm so glad you like the idea of the contest, great to see you participating! Your porch looks like a lovely place to read, especially with the plants.
I used to read a ton of Stephen King - I like that he just uncovers his stories as he writes them, which gives them a creepy, wandering feel. The Stand is so epic!
And it's just like @awhsarada said, the translated title is totally different in Spanish (at least it still makes sense haha).

In this case you can see it's related to the book, not like The Professor or The Student XD Those titles doesn't tell that you're about to read about saving a girl or a nephew wanting to solve his uncle's murder
