How important is it REALLY, to do a verification post?

in advice •  7 years ago

Is it something I should do? I see so many people holding up their signs with their names and I have asked myself a few times... "should I do this?"

Does it change or help anything?

What do you all think?

thank you! much appreciated!

Are you famous?
Are an artist?
Do you have content on the Internet that someone could use here to make money?

If the answer is "No" , then it isn't important at all.

Hahahah nope, Im just a nobody! Thank you for actually replying with an answer! I appreciate it!

The bots are horrible.
Don't upvote or follow anyone who asks you to. It is just a waste of time.

Sometimes I do it without even thinking. Its more of a "cool thanks" I do the same thing on fb lol Gotta break that habit!

The purpose is to show you are a real person and not a bot. Or not a "synthetic" identity. It is not necessary. But it helps from the social networking aspect of the platform. It is an introduction. People with shared interests are much more likely to follow each other. And to comment. And to interact with each other's posts.

It's nice to know your post was actually read and something gained from it. Other than bot votes.

Thank you for replying! It definitely is nice to have legit replies on posts!! I wasnt sure about it all because to me, people are so good at photoshop now, that even verification pics seem pointless to me lol I did my introduction post and I try to add relevant tags to my posts, but Im new and still finding my footing here so there are still many questions I have :D

That's fine. Whatever you are comfortable with. There is no rule against synthetic accounts. But people are just more likely to connect with other real people.

and that one picture holding a sign makes me "real?" I mean, I have zero issue taking a verification pic, Im a selfie whore so its just one more excuse for me to take one hahaha I just try to understand the logic behind things before I get into it hahah

Not exactly. You could just as easily lift a photo from the net and photoshop as you mentioned earlier. It is just one element of a larger picture. If your comments are always the same, or don't indicate you have read a post, it is evident on its face. The totality of interaction and the introduction paint a picture of who you are and what you are willing to share. The more you share, the more likely folks are to interact. The more genuine your comments, the more likely you will engage in the social interaction on this website. Like this very thread.

Would you have even bothered engaging in "conversation" with a mcbotface?

Ok I see what you are saying now and your right, I would not bother engaging in conversation with something I assumed was a bot. Looks like hair and make up are in my near future hahahahaha I have a verification pic to take! lol ty for the advice! I appreciate it!!!

please follow me i will follow you

I think this is a good way to prevent you use others' photo.

if that is the only worry, i dont really see a point. If people want to think i am using a fat girls pictures and claiming them as my own... then let people think that hahahah I post pics of me sweating like a pig while I exercise hahaha and its not like Im cute while doing it hahaha If i were going to steal someone elses pics, id at least make them good pics lmfao! ty for your reply :D

i don't think it is related to the 'outlook', but stealing instead. I guess no one would like to see your own photo, or sharing, story, blog got stolen. lol But actually I just joined steemit for a day, this is what suggested by her to add a verify photo in my introduction post ^^

but I dont see how posting one verification post will stop someone from stealing my stories, photos, blog, etc.. Im trying really hard to understand it all

I think a post with actual content and actually introducing yourself is a much better use of time.
The #introducemyself and #introduceyourself is followed by a lot of people and you will get a lot of support from other steemians.
The key is to be personnal and make connections. Respond to comments and not bots or "follow me and I will follow you".

good luck on you fitness journey!
