I had this topic come up once before when talking with someone but if the rules that worked before don’t apply today because of all that have changed, should we even listen to advice?
Yes
Part of me is saying yes because we can always learn from someone else’s trials and tribulations. They have experienced what it takes to succeed, have fought in the trenches to get where they are now and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Even to my surprise, certain instances require a strict routine of stages that one must accomplish in order to claim expert level or a degree of knowledge. If everyone has done it before it has to be the right way ….right?
No
The other half of me wants to say hell no! In life we are always taught to do things a certain way example: go to school, get a job, get married, have kids, blah blah blah. Strangely enough, it is always the ones who go through life slightly different that make the big noise, cause ripples in the norm and honestly are the ones others look up to. They received the same advice to follow the rules just like you and I but decided to create their own rules. With technology now there are no rules, and by the time you set rules they are outdated. In a world that is heavily congested with “new”, “quick”, or whatever else is getting attention we almost have to break the rules and stand out. Cookie cutter living is not acceptable anymore.
Challenge
Compare your life, how many things have you done according to the rules and how many things have you done against the rules and what were the results? PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT SAYING TO BREAK ANY LAW however I am saying to look at life through a different lens, how can you make your own rules to live the life you want? How can you stand out? How can you matter ? And most importantly how can you fulfill your purpose on this planet?
