I don't usually put my private life on blast. Recently I have been struggling to find ways to help my husband who has severe PTSD.
The daily tasks of running an errand or a trip to the grocery store can be so stressful and exhausting.
Sometimes I feel like I'm not strong enough to help him through these hard times alone. We sent in a referral to the VA for PTSD support group. To any of you who have ties in with the VA, you may well know that it can be a very long and drawn out process to achieve your goals. Now over 6 weeks after asking for a referral, still no response. It's quite frustrating.
I know I can't help him on my own. I also know that a support group would be very helpful for my husband.
I'm beginning to feel extreme anxiety and low self worth because I feel like I'm not supporting my husband as well as I could be. But I'm doing my damnedest. If any of you out there have any recommendations or words of advice, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading and hopefully I will receive some positive feedback.
Best wishes to you all and thanks again!
Hi @rachinata, I hear you!!
Having survived the Vietnam War in 1969/1970 and heavily traumatised, I know and have experience of what your husband is going through.
If I may offer some (unsolicited) advice, just be there for him, get help if you can and connect him to people who have overcome PTSD.
Don't beat yourself up on his situation, it is not your fault!
Keep doing your damnedest, showing love and compassion
