TRASH STINKS!

in advice •  7 years ago  (edited)

We missed the trash truck today. How in the world can someone miss putting their trash out on the curb?

Its ridiculous! It's not like they changed the schedule.

They always come on Thursday mornings. Always! Even on holidays. And that's ridiculous too.

Household Trash

My wife and I are fairly consistent about getting our trash out on the curb on time. This was the first time since we moved into our house that we forgot to put the trash can on the curb.

We have trained ourselves to address this important issue each week because TRASH STINKS!

We don't want garbage piling up in our home. The odor alone is enough to make you sick, but the mess gets even bigger when you add the flies and the rodents. Yuck!

Mental Trash

So when I heard the trash truck sputter by our house, I started thinking about the other kinds of trash that so easily pile up in my life.

Honestly, I don't always take a weekly inventory of my mental garbage.

You know what I am talking about! Those self destroying thoughts. Those I don't matter and No one cares about me lies.

I need to be as vigilant in taking out the mental waste as I am about taking out the household waste.

How about you?

  • Do you sabotage your relationships?
  • Do you push people away because you don't think that you are worthy of being loved?
  • Do you put a negative spin on everything?
  • Do you allow bitterness and anger to consume your thoughts?

Our mental garbage stinks too. Not just to us, but for the people who we interact with everyday.

Poisoning Our Bodies

We would never leave trash piling up in our home, but a lot of people allow food, alcohol, and other substances to wreck havoc on our bodies.

What if we paid the same attention to what we place in our bodies and intentionally tried to remove the junk that poisons us?

I am a everything in moderation kinda guy (in theory). But my practice of that principle is weak!

My body is a temple, and honestly, the way I am living life now is destroying my time.

I am a slave to food, and I need to remove the junk that I am eating, just like I send the trash out to the curb.

I must master food, never let it master me.

Conclusion

We all carry a lot of baggage, a lot of trash!

We can either keep carrying the burden, or we can choose to let it go.

I hope you choose the later. That is the choose I am making. It will be a difficult path, but one worth taking!

Hi @sumatranate! @buggedout just voted for me in a share the love competition that you nominated me for! Thank you so much for the nomination! 😀 Your support means the world to me!

I laid low for about a week to replenish power, so I miss everyone. And now there's a tropical storm or hurricane on its way with potential of massive flooding. Our place should be fine. Please pray for my city... Houston.

Much respect. 😀

@karencarrens, thanks for popping in this comment thread and letting me know what has been happening.

Isn't it amazing that we start to miss people on Steemit when we have not heard from them in a while? We really are building community here.

I am a praying person so I will be lifting up Houston, her residents, and your family as the tropical storm/hurricane moves in.

I saw something on the news last night about Harry coming your way. Praying for safety and against flooding!

Thank you so much. Yes, you're right, missing each other is a great sign of true community building. Thank you very much for your prayers. 😀

I loved this article. It's so true that we are carrying around toxic emotional and mental garbage inside us. It's easier to forget to take it out to the curb too because for som reason we see to become attached to this type of garbage more than the stuff in the kitchen trash bag.

@sabrin514, thanks for the kind words and support regarding the article.

I like how you said that we seem to become attached to this type of garbage. That is very true. It is almost as if we think that we deserve the negative consequences of the emotional and physical junk that we hold on to.

A lot of people are crying out for more freedom. Seems like a lot of us need to look for personal ways to let go of burdens and embrace a life free from the garbage that we choose to hold on to.

Thanks for stopping by!

This is, literally, my nightmare. Our garbage bags get taken away bi-weekly and only four bags at a time. Our recycling/compost gets taken away weekly. I would have to be in a bodycast paralysed or dead to forget to put my trash out the night before. I am far more anal about garbage day than about anything else in my life.

@xeonn, it sounds like there are a lot of rules about your garbage. I think that having to following everything you mentioned would give me nightmares too!
