July ProgBlog #4: derp

So problem shoulder is acting up again. It all started when I decided to have a shower with the extractor fan on (I'm aware it needs to be on but my need to be warm is infinitely more important than the need to avoid mould growth). There was problems with the hot water system (we replaced the old one which finally died after possibly 40+ years with a cheap crappy new one instead of a good one because we thought we were going to be moving) or maybe it's a problem with plumbing, I don't know. Anyway, I got too cold, I felt something twang while shivering (I'm aware it doesn't actually get that cold where I am but I have no cold tolerance. None.), woke up the next day feeling sick (which I got over pretty quick) and getting dizzy spells when looking right regardless of what orientation I'm in (standing, sitting, lying, doesn't make a difference) which eventually fades but can recur randomly during the day which is tonnes of fun when I'm driving. It's done wonders for my concentration.

JJ was able to give it a massage today which has helped a lot, may need more. When we are able to wrangle a bit more of that annoyingly elusive time thing.

I had high hopes for the phoenix and started off exactly the same way as the dragon, playing around with brushes to get the job done faster. Exactly the same as the dragon, I couldn't find a brush to get me the look I wanted so by hand again. It progressed a lot faster than the dragon.

I had to start again about five hundred million times. Deja vu much.

After that I realised I needed to be using the airbrush rather than the paintbrush (because it either doesn't have a minimum size or its minimum is smaller and that the dragon would probably have been better done with the airbrush rather than the paintbrush.

Derp.

Above I'm trying to show the falloff which I think is working (though I am alternating between thinking the feathers look fine and the feathers look kinda woolly x_x). Below a closer view of the head and crest (did the yellow feather and the beak while waiting for the above to upload XD). I'll probably need to go over some bits again by the looks.

And finally showing that I am actually starting on the yellow section. Yellow and pink are annoying colours which won't show up properly under either light unless you're on an awkward angle because yes.

The body and the bushy bit of the lyre tail shouldn't take too long now, it's mostly the wings and the long feathers on the tail that I'm worrying about.

This post also appears on my blog.

Patreon and Ko-fi seem to be having problems tonight o_O Ko-fi never finishes uploading the image and Patreon's publish button refuses to activate, insisting that I need to add an image and completely disregarding the fact one has been added. Maybe they're telling me it's too late and I should go to bed (though it would be a lot quicker and easier if they'd just work XD). Least steem and Narrative are cooperating.

Only slightly related, yay for being able to add tags starting with numbers and SteemPeak allowing more tags and they colour coded it so prettily!

Want a crowd character? If you interact frequently with me here (either on my posts or your posts or better yet both!) or on one of the linked Discord channels, all you have to do is let me know and tell me what you'd like :) It can be one of your characters (including ones you make up on the spot for this XD) or a self insert. There's a bunch of different human types to choose from, and pets/other animals are also welcome.

Thanks for looking! ^_^

Awww, I hope problem shoulder will return to non-problem state soon, fyn! I kinda twisted my back muscle during sleep last week and massages sure do wonders, dont they!

And hahah, I can relate about working on something for a long time only to realise later that I've been on a tool that's not optimal for the task :3

Brain can have farty moments, like that XD;;;;;;

Thanks ^_^ unfortunately I don't think that shoulder has a non-problem state anymore ;-;

Ew twisty back muscles are no fun for anyone D: hope the massage completely got rid of it!

LoL I don't know if I'm glad about the fact I'm not the only one or not XD Are you usually able to salvage when you realise you've been using the wrong/suboptimal tool or do you have to start over? Sometimes I can but it then usually becomes a case of what's going to be quicker XD

Yes, yes they can XD

awwww poor fyn!

it didn't get rid of it, but it sure helped!

.... sometimes i can salvage, but sometimes, they head for the bin :3 sometimes starting over is quicker than fixing brain farts !!!! XD

Niiiiiice a couple of steps closer to completion! \ [T] /
The phoenix's feather looks nice, Ry. It's kinda fluffy(?) And by the way, I hope your shoulder problem is not too bad that it keeps the phoenix and the dragon waiting.

I don't mean to take joy in your hard time making this, but this post makes me giggle XD

If you don't have the type of brush that you need, perhaps you can find custom brushes online?
And by the way, I hope your shoulder problem is not too bad that it keeps the phoenix and the dragon waiting.

...Deja vu much XD

Very slowly getting there XD

Yay glad it looks kinda fluffy, fluffy is fine, woolly not so much ^_^ lol.

Dragon is done :) The shoulder problem is persistent, it's just worse some days than others. Especially in winter where it's pretty much constant (summer basically only if I strain it/overexert).

I'm not that entertaining so I'm happy to get a giggle XD

I probably could find custom brushes online but was okay to do these ones by hand. And it was probably quicker than trying to find brushes ^_^;

Hope your shoulder gets better. I am out in sympathy with you at the moment cos my knee is a bit fucked from weightlifting. That said my relexology friend came over yesterday to work his magic and now my knee feels better but my arm hurts (the bit that's connected to the knee, where he dug in til I couldn't take it anymore). He told me he'd give me a touch up later in the week. Can't wait for that! Also, your artwork is coming along nicely.

Oops poor knee :S were you lifting something heavier than usual?

Yay for reflexology friend! Pfft poor arm now, bodies are stupid sometimes XD hopefully the touch up will sort everything out :)

Thanks ^_^

Sorry to hear about your shoulder @ryivhnn I enjoy our 'winters' here in Brisbane but sometimes I embrace the cold with a little too much enthusiasm and not so long ago ended up with dose of bronchitis. The summer can take it's time coming as far as I a concerned as I do not love the heat.

I truly admire you ability to produce such interesting art using online techniques that seem way too complicated for me. The colours are awesome.

Ahh oops yeh don't get bronchitis that's not fun for anyone XD

Thank you ^_^ It's not too bad, just something you need to be completely insane really interested in to do as it's a bit involved, like any other thing :D

Haha.......Well that is why I couldn't even contemplate the complex procedures you use to produce your unique art. I'm only partly insane. 🤣 😏
