Like fireflies in the night, the lanterns from the festival are lit with a candle, expand with the filling of hot air, rise into the night sky for a minute or two of flight, to then flutter back down to Earth's surface, where it will remain for the rest of it's decaying life cycle.
Reminded me of someone kicking out a hot ember from a fire, as it kicks up all the ashes and sparks from the flame.
As we drove past to exit the area, it was like a scene from a movie.. constant lanterns being sent up into the air to eventually rain back down and onto vehicles. A wall of floating objects seems to materialize out of nowhere from the ground, to drift upwards to reach a certain height, where the air parcel rises no more due to differences in temperatures, to be extinguished and dropped back down some 100 yards from the liftoff point.
A very neat display of light and lanterns.. I would say very well worth the extra half hour we stayed listening to the concert to time the last flight.
