Ripples in the cloud ceiling appear as waves in the ocean. Energy in the atmosphere moves into the area and brings with it, turbulence and instability.
There wasn't much of a breeze at all when I was up just a moment ago, but I expect that to change as time progresses. Temperatures are in the low 30's Fahrenheit, cool enough to maintain a snow, but I expect the precipitation to begin as rain, move to a freezing mix, and then finally completely snow for the rest of Wednesday. And Wednesday is when "they" expect the heaviest accumulations to occur.
Local warnings are calling for 6-10 inches with possible higher peak totals in certain locations. That "certain" location is typically where I am when it comes to snow, in the hilly terrain of Southeastern Pennsylvania!
Stay safe everyone.
