AFGHANISTAN: WHAT DO WE DO NOW?

Whether or not it was a good idea to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan is one question. But that’s distinct from the second question:

If we’re going to leave, how do we do that and protect our troops, our international allies’ nationals still on the ground, and the Afghanis who worked with us or who otherwise might be targeted by the Taliban if they remain in the country?

It should be considered axiomatic that America does not abandon the people who worked with us and supported our efforts in Afghanistan over the last twenty years.

I have been very critical of America’s increasingly open-door immigration policy, but when it comes to saving the lives of people who risked theirs by working with us in Afghanistan, I say OPEN THE DOORS AND LET THEM IN!

We don’t owe it to most people in the world for them to come live in America, but we do owe it to those Afghanis whose lives are now endangered because they worked with us.

They supported us.

Now we need to support them.
