That we can say that blockchain has changed the narrative worldwide forever is without a doubt.
In Africa, the need for transnational & regional integration and a handshake is required to shift from underdevelopment to development at the pace of the speed of light.
For years, African countries have been the focus of a "heart and mind" struggle between the East and the West. When "development" was brought by the West, models chosen focused on western ideas and ideals with solutions driven by the World Bank and her sister multilateral organizations during a downturn. With the gradual power shift to the East and the consequent geopolitical reconsideration, Africa is still focused on foreign trade and sooner or later economic solution pills provided by Chinese and its sister multilateral organization and partners.
But what if, rather than follow through with this back and forth ping-pong swing with the fate of the continent and its billion of residents, African countries working through regional bodies (ECOWAS, EAC, SADC, e.t.c) work together on blockchain platforms powered by cryptocurrencies such as Stellar (XLM), Sureremit (RMT), or even STEEM to mention a few to bring about a 360*degrees' revolution in payment, education, healthcare, property rights management or even identification to manage travel and KYC policies meeting international standard.
How would this be implemented?
Significant progress has been made in regional integration, telecommunication, logistics and supply chain all that is required are a further discussion for a continent-wide blockchain standard which can be negotiated and agreed to through bodies like African Development Bank or even the African Union.
The possibilities of this narrative!
A technological revolution is already visible in the payment, agriculture, off-grid power generation and telecommunication space. With this revolution has come high trained and a highly skilled workforce that is creating and deploying value to a populace hungry for products and services are taken for granted in Europe and China. These highly skilled techpreneurs can create platforms on the adopted blockchain standard. With the revolution comes, cheaper payments, trust system in payment ,and contract executions, transparent property and land record management.
A revolution is possible in Africa all it takes is a willing government and a ready people whose time has come
