Folk music is the principle medium and channel by which the imaginative expression of cultural values of an ethnic group or society are beat revealed.

This is more prominent in African societies where folk music's functions go beyond mere entertainment accomplish various non-musical or extra-musical functions.
African folk music has made a significant impact not only in popular secular music but also in the contemporary sacred music.
Folk music is created, disseminated and used by the people for the benefit of the people of a community.In many cultures in Africa the functional aspect of folk music includes: dissemination of codified messages to chiefs,elders, and members of the society,celebration of social activities and religious rites,and communication with the spirit world.
Most African composers have put folk music into scores and writing,thereby making provisions for Chorale's and choirs to be able to perform them in occasion and gatherings,which has helped in projecting our folk music.

Born 28th January 1936. A magical composer, scholar, conductor, Nigerian Musicologist ,a traditional ruler and a scholar who has written numerarticles and books on music especially the role of music in the lives of Africans and Africans in diaspora.
