Good day, my friends and welcome to another series on "know Africa". A series aimed at putting my steemit friends in the know about Africa. How we got to this state, our antecedents, the cultural heritage held dearly among others. And also Africa as a continent and not a country while ultimately making a charge to all and sundry to make the continent a better place. In case you missed the last four series. You may find them here; part1,part2,part3,part4

The secret of America’s success is its ability to put to positive uses her ethnically, racially, religiously, ideologically, politically diversified citizenry and intelligent manpower base. But in Africa, these blessings abound bountifully, but they are pangs of curses. Intelligence is chaneled towards criminal ventures while the struggle over mineral wealth is the root cause of the most wars in the continent.

If the Americans were Africans, the Sahara would have been transformed into an overflowing Greenland or a multi-billion dollar tourist paradise. The Japanese would have utilized Nigeria’s mineral wealth to banish poverty if they were Africans. For sure the Asian Tigers would have converted the abundant clay in Nigeria into cement.

The Germans would have harnessed the abundant human and natural resources to transform the continent into one huge military cum industrial colossus. If the rich oil magnates in Dubai were Africans, the flowing blood in the dreaded Sambisa forest would be gushing crude oil. The Chinese would have utilized the agricultural produces in Nigeria in order to diversify the mono-economic policy in Nigeria.

The British would have replaced Coca Cola with Kunu and Sobo worldwide. While the Jews would have devised ways to package garri as the ultimate solution to human health problems – low cholesterol, 99% fat free, no preservatives! Even the Brazilians would have built world class and big capacity stadia in the vast lands in the northern Nigeria.

If only the white man was the black man, Africa would have been the crucible of technological advancement, hub of educational innovations, nest of economic development and the aerie of mega infrastructures. Regardless of the present state of motherland Africa, I see the rays of hope which shone bright from our past and it set to illuminate our present, afterward, set a future for us.

If. . . If. . . .if. . . .

So many ifs... but in the end Africans are neither Germans nor Americans not Chinese... rather we are Africans... it's not bad to learn from what others do right but rather than continuously compare ourselves to them, let's find our true selfs. Africa has lost its roots in colonialism.

Perhaps if we had not been colonised, we would have developed into civilisation at our own pace. Nonetheless, what has happened has happenedned.

Until we know where we came from and accept where we are, we can't get to where want to be

Yes, that's why Socrates or so said, an unexamined life is not worth living. Looking inwards and identifying areas of snag is highly important.
Truly, colonialism played its part in keeping colonies at par with the rest of the world. But we got it wrong when entrusted with power, and decided to be drunk on it. Instead, of chaneliing it to the right place

Actually didn't keep us at par with the world... it left us behind... it was more exploitative than beneficial

It’s interesting to see a variety of opinions about Africans from Native Africans. I don’t know much about the continent myself, I have only met some very kind people from various countries who had been working overseas but there is only so much you can learn in a conversation or two.

While my knowledge and experience is limited, I also think colonialism also played a huge part in holding back Africa, but I’m sure it was very complicated as well. We in the West are also not properly educated and our history is biased as to not make our country and its allies look too malicious.

But those who play games with others prosperity are not most of us, I believe most of us want to see Africans prosper and I hope steemit and blockchain will help us all get where we want to be.

I think the mindframe of the new breed of whites is different from that of those who colonised and subjected us to slavery for years. Whites of this age may want the prosperity of the black race, maybe... but I'm pretty sure the colonial masters were just selfish and greedy.

We cannot become better if we do not learn about the past and how we got here. This is nice. I will read up the other series

Yes, you are right. Please, do. Let me have your feedback
