First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

This is the present happenstance in Benue state, Nigeria. The government has folded their arms while watching tens of thousands of defenceless people in Benue state mowed down and slaughtered like cows: Fathers, mothers, sons and daughters – no one seems to be exempted from these herdmen's assassination list.
To be frank, what prompted me to write on this topic is, the most recent attack of these Fulani herdsmen on a catholic church and merciless killing of the members and 2 priests. If this is a clash between the farmers and cattle rearers, why the attack on a Catholic church and killing of priests? My heart has been deeply wounded beyond healing by such sacrilegious and evil act.
It is most unfortunate that the government has failed us woefully and we seem to be falling ourselves also. These cattle rearers are civilians and from all indication, untrained in the use of heavy guns and weapons. But to my greatest dismay, thay carry guns of Ak47 around while no police nor army tries to stop them.source
Be guided! This is never a case of herdsmen vs farmers brouhaha as we were led to believe, rather it is a masterminded plan to get the whole Nigeria to it's religious bended knee. It is a systematic and progressional path to ethnic cleansing, it is a process in progress.
Recently, reliable statistics revealed that over 170,000 indigenes and occupants of Benue state, Nasarrawa state and some parts of the middle belt of Nigeria has been internally displaced to other neighbouring villages and regions, for fear of loosing thier lives.
source
Over 500 people has been slaughtered withing a year and 700 buildings and properties destroyed and converted into grazing land.
THIS IS HAPPENING AND THE GOVERNMENT, BOTH AT THE STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL HAS KEPT QUIET AND ADAMANT
mass burial of 73 killed in Benue
My questions are:
- Who is funding these herdsmen, providing them with sophisticated weapons?
- Why have there not been a tangible result from the military as to curbing this insurgency?
- Has ordinary cattle rearers suddenly surpass the might of all the Nigerian forces put together?
- Or are there some hidden assistance and facilitation from the government to these criminals?
Posterity will judge us all for our actions and inactions.
This is happening now at the middle belt and will soon reach the eastern hemisphere of Nigeria. If you deny Benue state your fraternal and spiritual solidarity now because you are neither from Benue nor residing in Benue – remember it is a process in progress, and no one is left out – when it reaches your own turn, whose solidarity will you expect??
