If you sit on an anthill, its brown soil will rub off on you and people will easily know where you have been.
Close friends tend to behave in the same way. This means that the company you keep often than not, has an influence in your behavior.
If you keep friends of bad character,at some point this character will reflect in you as well and the reverse is also true for people of bad character who fimd thselves in the compamg of 'behaved' people, in the long run they also tend to emulate these good traits.
In English, this same adage is known as, 'Tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are'
