Proverbs 31 Woman

The loud wall clock struck 11 pm hard and Katana wasn't back yet. She was still sitting across the metallic hotpot on the table. Her two children had cleared everything else before bed. She smiled sadly at their sleeping faces. Their innocence seemed to glow under the high voltage cheap bulb light.

Her eyes swept across her stuffy single room. Sadness chocked her, she knew it was going to be a long night.

As the thought evaporated in her mind, something smashed the gate outside. 'He's here', she thought. Restlessness conquered her soul and her mind wondered what will be done to her this night. He was drunk and that meant her ending in bruises. It has always been like that since the beginning of their union.

She believed only someone raised by a single mum would understand why she stayed. To give her children the best shot at having a complete family.

He entered the house bleeding. Clearly looking like he had been in a fight. Fear shrouded her mind and somehow alerted her being pain was on the way. Sitting at the edge of their only seat; he demanded his shoes to be removed. She did as asked as fast as she could. Her third unwanted pregnancy was at stake.

The real cause behind his worsened attitude. She mistakenly got pregnant and had refused to abort. He complained she got herself pregnant and that such mistakes don't happen.

Food was also demanded with a reminder that went like; "Give me food! It's the only reason you live in my own house. To feed me and your endless line of brats". She quickly served him what she had managed to gather after he refused to buy food. And that was what ignited that night's fight.

The plate flew past her smashing the wall behind her angle. The contents were mainly left hanging on her bulging belly. This was followed by punch after punch and her mind wondering in slow motion when it will end. Insults floated in the air waking her two kids. Their wails made her worse. She wanted to sooth them back to sleep but his mouth won't stop.

He barked at them to sleep and silence followed. She knew they weren't asleep even as he continued hitting her. They just feared him like she did. They were afraid of their own father. She vowed to change their toxic environment even as he ended his routine with raping her. Her heart sank but remained hopeful.
