Africans are a unique race and are a force to reckon with not because of their dark skin but because of God given traits and abilities which cuts them out for unusual greatness. How do we recognise Africans? They are a people with immense strength, absolute determination and a never say die attitude. Do you remember Ivorian footballer Didier Drogba? His team Chelsea was losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final of 2012. But the air cannot be trapped, just when everyone thought all hope was lost, in the 88th minute Drogba powered in an header to equalize for Chelsea, he eventually scored the winning penalty to win Chelsea FC the Champions League for the first time in history! This heroic endeavour epitomises the never say die attitude of Africans.
Like the palm tree planted by the river side,
the potentials of Africans abroad has no boundary or limitation. This is an evidence of the huge talent Africans possess. Be it in the area of academics, sports, entertainment, arts etc, our African stars shine brighter than a million light.
Permit me to introduce you to a Nigerian student with unrivalled intellectual acumen who broke all academic records in Russia- Dr Victor Olalusi, he scored 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow (RNRMU) in 2013, arguably the first in the world.
Permit me to tell you about Nigeria’s Kehinde Wiley, chosen by Former American President, Barack Obama to draw his ( Obama) official Portrait for the White House. This is the first time an African will make an official Portrait for the White House. This is historic!
No, am not done yet, permit me to show you a creative African musician, Wizkid who has songwriting credits for the ‘One Dance’ song by Drake which entered the Guinness World Record as the most played song on Spotify with over one billion streams.
'When you go to Rome, you behave like the Romans,' they said. This is a reckless and a feckless statement as Africans have proved beyond doubt that they can do better than even the 'Romans'. No wonder we recognize Africans abroad not necessarily by their colour but by their great achievement and contribution to humanity in all areas of human endeavour. This is the African identity.
