-The musician and researcher promotes the electrocaribe genre, which is at the forefront in Latin America.
Aquiles Rengifo, best known as Akilín, musician, multi-instrumentalist, producer and Venezuelan folk music expert, launches his single and album with videoclip “Me tá llamando” in all digital platforms, inviting everyone to dance because “el tambor lo pongo yo” (drumming is on me). In almost four minutes long, the theme written by Akilín and performed by Carlos Talez, focuses on San Millan’s drum beat, without leaving behind the drums from the towns of Cata, Chuao, Turiamo, Choroni and Patanemo, just to name a few. This theme comes along with a very colorful and striking videoclip that shows the tradition of Naiguata’s dancing devils. “Me ta llamando” is a catchy single to the rhythm of electrocaribe, which is a melody fusion between traditional and digital music and is at the forefront in
Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, Cuba and Ecuador, to name a few. This genre is also known as tropical bass, electropico or digital folk. Akilín is one of Venezuela’s pioneers in this genre, but he is more
geared towards drumming, always taking into account cuatro, guitar, mandolin and bandola.
With a 20-year track record in the musical scene, especially as a researcher of the sounds of the Caribbean, Akilín launches his recording production “Me tá llamando” with nine themes. Its first single “Electroparranda” was released in 2017 and was a great success among the public, so the same success is expected for this second song “I’m constantly investigating music. My field research is focused on the primary sources of music; on what’s going on in towns and villages. There I find a source of inspiration for creation”, says Akilin.

the official theme for the Junior National Sporting Games 2013, held in
Caracas.
He has ventured in composing music for movies and TV, composing formany commercial spots and creating the music for Christian Marquez’ film Caribian Drim (2018), Flora Rodriguez’ documentary film Otros nosotros (2013) and the short film Galus Galus, awarded in different international festivals (Cannes Short Film Corner 2013), and which earned him an acknowledgment for best music in the David Suarez 2013 Municipal Awards.
