Role and problems of women in farming in India

in agriculture •  7 years ago

India is one of the fourth largest agricultural economy in the world .According to World Bank data 2011, 17.5 % GDP comes from agriculture whereas more than 70% of the population is engaged in agriculture
Women in rural areas contribute to 84% of the population of which 34% are cultivators and 40% are labourers

ROLE OF WOMEN
Agricultural activities include sowing , harvesting , weeding , cultivating , etc.
Domestic activities include cooking , feeding children, cleaning etc
allied activities include milking , collecting gobar from cattles and feeding them

PROBLEMS FACES BY RURAL WOMEN'S :-
Migration of men: due to the recent radical change in the demographic population of rural areas where more and more mens are migrating in urban areas the work load dramatically increased for the women
Social problems: Due to the lack of literacy rate and awareness the rural women don't get the social status , they don't have land rights , only 12% of women have land ownership in rural areas where as only 10% of land is held by women
Health problems: Most of the field work consists of bending , squatting which leads to physical body pain over a period of time (leg, neck, back)images (31).jpeg

Conclusion: Awareness campaigns must frequently be conducted on district level to create awareness and free health checkup must be provided to diagnose rural women.
