Following last weeks election, today's individual has the chance to share her real feelings. Below is Claire trying to put her feelings into words.
THERE ARE NO DO-OVERS
"As people probably know my heart is broken into a million pieces not only because the woman I have admired and supported for 17 years of my life was unable to achieve her highest goal, but because the country I'm supposed to represent chose the path of racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and bigotry. As a result of my dad's job I spent my life overseas and was able to see how proud my dad was to advocate for American values. From my experience most countries saw us as the gold standard; We truly were a city upon a hill. But after last night's election I fear that the America I know and love will cease to exist. That millions of people will not have a place in this new country. Particularly women and girls like myself who experience veiled and blatant sexism everyday. As a woman who has spent my whole life combating sexism I take particular offense when men talk about how "in two weeks it will all be fine." Comments like this in the workplace infuriate me. Elections are not insignificant. Elections are not a sports game where there "is always next year." Elections matter. When people insinuate that they don't matter I can hardly control my rage. I hope that in this time of darkness America will stand up and show the world that we are a country of diversity and inclusion not of anger and hate. In my America we all love and respect one another not in spite of our difference but because of them. Just know that regardless of your race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation you and everyone else always has a place in my America. Lastly, I love you Hillary Clinton I could not have asked for a better champion. You truly inspire me ✊. #stillwithher"
