Google uses AI to run the cooling systems in its data systems

in ai •  6 years ago

Google's data centers house more than a thousand servers and they power everything related to Google; from Google Search to YouTube to Gmail. But such data centers need to be kept cool so as to prevent any damages to the servers as they heat up and keep the servers running 27/7.

Years back, Google applied AI to its data center's cooling system which offered recommendations to system controllers on how to boost and maintain energy efficiency at the same time maintaining temperatures. Though humans are always there to supervise, the AI systems implement actions on their own.

Google says not only data centers will be able to benefit from such system.

"In the long term, we think there's potential to apply this technology in other industrial settings, and help tackle climate change on an even grander scale,"
