Big tech companies like Google, Amazon, and Meta have significantly delayed their green card applications for foreign workers due to increased demands in the process and decreased competition for talent, probably exluding AI talents.
Google suspended its PERM application in January 2023 and plans to restart it no earlier than the first quarter of 2025. Amazon has also suspended new PERM applications until 2024. While Meta continues to sponsor green cards, the process has slowed down considerably, taking a year or more. The wave of job cuts from these companies has further complicated the PERM process, requiring companies to prove that laid-off employees are not qualified for jobs for foreign workers and to inform laid-off workers about new positions before applying for PERM for foreign workers.
